Volcanoes are also present in Antarctica, and there are at least three recently active volcanic centers in the South Shetlands, Deception island being the largest(pictured here) we entered this ring shaped island through a narrow entrance called Neptune's bellows.
The freshly fallen snow from a blizzard the night before looks great against the volcanic landscape of Deception Is. |

Thank you for showing this! Is it possible that a landscape can be be more hostile to life than this one? The pattern of snow and lava (or ashes)seems to be very modern. Well seen!

Amazing capture and amazing place to find yourself! I agree, the snow fall on the black rock is a superb contrast.. it looks so untamed. Within the compostion I also like how the clouds are scattered above the top of the volcano. Very good.
