Photographer’s Note
We sailed with Holland America’s flagship, MS Amsterdam, on this trip. The cruise started in Valparaiso, Chile, passed Cape Horn and ended in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 3 weeks later; and of course, included 3 days of scenic cruising in the Antarctic. Suffice to say we had the trip of our life time.
This picture was taken at 65,08.15S, 64,04.13W, sailing past the Penola Strait between Hovgaard Island and the mainland. The ship was cruising along these quiet water quite slowly. I noted the string of small ripples following the ship formed a very interesting converging line with the landscape, drawing attention to the group of clouds at the right side of the picture. Again, the composition just presented itself at that fleeting moment, and couldn’t be planned. This is the fun part of doing a photo travelogue on a cruise!
Picture was taken with a polarizing filter.
