Photographer’s Note
My wife and I went on a cruise of South America and Antarctica 2 weeks ago, and we are still on the 3rd week of our cruise. We were in Antarctica for 3 days, and the experience was nothing short of an adventure of a life time. The scenaries were simply jaw dropping and we wondered at times if we were on planet earth. The most gratifying part of the trip is being quite informed and educated about this pristine part of our world; and knowing that there is an international treaty that enforces strict regulation on travel through the Antarctica to prevent damage to its ecosystem by human activity.
I primarily used my Nikon D300 with a 18 mm to 200 mm VR lens for these pictures. A 300 mm lens was used to capture wild life and a 14 mm lens was used on a few occasions to capture a panoramic scene. A polarizing filter was used to take this picture. The D300 was connected to my Garmin hand held GPS system whenever possible to embed the latitude and longitude of the location where the picture was taken.
This picture was taken at 64,47.27S, 63,30.74W. This places the location of the picture at the Neumayer Channel, The Gerlache Strait, Antarctica.
A Garmin GPS and Mapsource compatible map of the Antarctic coast can be downloaded from the web free.

Hi Conrad,
Great view! I like that you have not only included the beautiful snowcapped landscape, but also the front of the ship with all of the people. It is an interesting and original perspective. I also like your detailed note that gives insight into the place that you visited and some technical information as well. Good sharpness and clarity...and I love the reflection in the water.
Thanks for sharing!

Well Conrad,
you did great here to state in your note about the gps system, which I was thinking of to buy maybe one day. The quality of the photo is great, an interesting photo though.
Cheers,

Hi Conrad,
Nice shot - well composed, great colors and POV. I envy your trip!
I have GPS for my D300 - by Promote. It attaches to the flash hotshoe is a bit bigger than a matchbox. It embeds lat, long and altitude, too! I highly recommend it for gadget geeks such as myself.
Let's have more of that rare part of the world!
Thank you,
