Amazing Altocumulus lenticularis over meteorological station on King George Island, South Shetland - Polish Antarctic Station "H. Arctowski".

It was the end of winter time. During windy days this kind of clouds arise over mountains in maritime Antarctica. This lens-shaped clouds form over mountains because of wave movement of the air crossing a mountain ridge. Interesting fact is that this clouds are very stable during windy days and their position is in the same places during the same wind direction.

P.s. Technical detail, this photo is match of 10 photos made from tripod.

Please enjoy this picture in a LARGE PANORAMA too,

with best regards, Piotr Angiel

Hi Piotr,
I never saw clouds in this formation before. Like an oil painting.I nearly lost in the larger panoramic view. Must be cold there.

Wow, impressive clouds, I saw a fair share of these last week in southern chile, but was impossible to enjoy the nature because of the winds. I can only imagine how harsh the conditions must be in Antarctica, where the same winds combine with bitter cold temperatures, great timing, the stitchwork is also excellent.

Hello Piotr,
Incredible clouds!
Fantastic landscape.
Greetings.
Igor

Hi Piotr, one word: fantastic!!! three lenticular clouds on top of each other... amazing!

Cheers

Witaj Andrzej!

czesc,
