Photographer’s Note
Gentoo penguins navigating ice on the shore of Neko Harbour. There was a rookery at the top of a nearby hill.
Gentoo penguins are identified by a wide white stripe that goes across the tops of their heads from one eye to the other, and their very bright orange beak and orange feet. They live on many of the islands of the Antarctic region but the main colony is in the Falkland Islands; world-wide there are about 320,000 breeding pairs of Gentoo penguins.
They stand about 30-35 in. / 75 - 95 cm tall. They weigh about 13 lbs / 6 kg. They eat mostly krill and some small fish. Their lifespan is 15 to 20 years.

Bonsoir David,
Voilà une composition que j'adore, peu de gens ont la chance d'assister à pareille balade de pingouins, vraiment un bon moment pour moi à la découverte de cette composition simple, très naturelle et bien ficelée techniquement.
Bravo.
Daniel.

Seems you were pretty close to the penguins in this shot! Really just amazing. By the way, do penguins have feathers or fur? They are birds, right? They look like a cross between a seal and a bird, so kind of confusing that way!

A neve parece tão macia e os pinguins tão delicados... Gostei do flagrante dos animais em fila.

Penguins always seem so determined to get their destination. Interesting picture, well chosen viewpoint and quite a few shades in the ice. Great!

Hello David,
Those animals are remarkable. Their lifestyle is awesome.
They may be threatened by major environmental change.
Wonderful shot.
