Photographer's Note

These girls are sisters. They were attending a small shop in Luwero and i stayed with their family for a week when i was there for a youth project with the dutch Red Cross in 1993. In the background you can see various items that are for sale: batteries, bars of soap and 'Sportsman' cigarettes.

Luwero was the centre place and name-giver of the so-called 'Luwero-triangle', where a lot of attrocities took place during the civil war in Uganda in the mid-eighties.

I have always liked this photo and recently scanned it from the print. I hope you like it too.
