Shop in Luwero, a photo from Luwero, Southern

Photographer's Note

These girls are sisters. They were attending a small shop in Luwero and i stayed with their family for a week when i was there for a youth project with the dutch Red Cross in 1993. In the background you can see various items that are for sale: batteries, bars of soap and 'Sportsman' cigarettes.

Luwero was the centre place and name-giver of the so-called 'Luwero-triangle', where a lot of attrocities took place during the civil war in Uganda in the mid-eighties.

I have always liked this photo and recently scanned it from the print. I hope you like it too.

Very nice portrait, Zeeger. I love the expression in both of their eyes. I also like that we can see some of the goods behind them. The shot would be stronger, I think, if you cropped a bit from the left to take them out of the center of the shot.

BTW, 1993 must have been a fascinating, albeit difficult, time to be in Uganda. I was there at xmas time this past year and fell in love with the country. I've posted a number of shots and a travelogue if you want to see some more recent pictures. I'd be curious to hear about your experiences there. Maybe a travelogue??

This is a great shot zeeger! just dunno why people did not get caught with it;-)) it is very sweet and subtle in tones, conveying alot of nice emotions, and tenderness. the background gives us a good indication of the context. 2 minor flaws for me : lacking some sharpness in the focus , and the subjetc could be off centered to make this portrait even more impacting.. however, it is already a very nice photo;-) congratulations:-)

very nice shot, i liked very much the workdhop by eric (eleparc), photoshop is truly amazing... her expression is very natural and trusting.
