Photographer’s Note
Flying ultralight from the Victoria Falls International Airport is a real adventure - unpredictable wind conditions, at 6 pm the tower closes and no more flights are cleared,...etc. For the third time I managed to fly. However the aerial view was the most rewarding for all the hassle. There are also other similar flights, however the ultralight is the only one where there is no glass between the camera and the falls.

Hi Michael
Very high diffence with my zambezi view.
Your shot is during austral summer(wet season). My one is during austral summer (dry season). Landscape is highly différent. Vey insterresting to compare. Without glasses the quality is also better.

What an amazing viewpoint! There is so much to look at in this photo. Apologies for my ignorance but I had no idea the Zambesi had such deep gorges and meanders. I am only assuming that the one to the right is Victoria Falls with the mist being the spray?? Well this site is for learning about the earth as well as photography and I have learned something interesting today
Thank you

Nice shot Michael;
I've never seen this angle on the falls before. I had no idea that it meandered so much downstream. Really quite somehting to see from the air- that's for sure.
Cheers Micheal,

What an impressive landscape!! I love how the little road manages to pass upon that huge gorge, and how close of the gap those houses have been built.
The compo is great too with that lives and curves intertwinning.
Congratulations!

Hi Michael,
Je trouve cette image incroyable ! Cette formation naturelle est très impresionnante tout comme le pont qui l'enjambe. Un angle de vue privilégié pour une photo qui valait la peine d'être publiée ! Tank's for this sharing ! ;o)
Je t'ai publié un petit WS où j'ai acctentué légèrement la netteté et les couleurs pour tirer au mieux parti du potentiel de cette photo.

This is an absolutely stunning overview of the Victoria Falls. The note expalins how you got it and opens my apettite even more to get to this unique place.
The shadows of the trees on the ground and in the gorge shows that you managed to take off and get this picture at the right time of the day. The sharpness could be a better one but can be possibly be explained by the low shutter time and it must not be very easy to get a steady one on a ultralight.

Hi Michael,
Just seen this amazing image with its unusual perspective as a feature on TE. I've heard so much about the Falls and seeing this image fills me with awe....the buildings and trees are so tiny and the Falls so immense. The sound of falling water must also have been deafening. What is also astonishing is that I'd imagined the Falls to have faced an open area and not be quite so enclosed within a meandering river system. Extraordinary and beautiful.
Best wishes,
Celina

Hi Michael,
This gorge certainly is unusual and spectacular - I've never seen any quite like this. Clearly, the best way to view these is from the place where you took the picture, though this might not be easy to achieve, and I'd guess that few are those who have such luck. The composition is good, but I feel that the colours are a little washed out, and the whole thing is somewhat lacking in sharpness.

Hi Michael. I thought I had critiqued this before I took my own shot of the falls from the ultra-light - but I must not have. I do remember looking at your shot before going to Victoria Falls, and it was seeing your post that prompted me to take the open ultra-light rather than the helicopter (I didn't like the window reflections that you see in other posts). I like your composition (the opposite direction to mine) to include the gorges below the falls - the light reflecting off the water in the gorges is nice too. I note a few critiquers have commented on the lack of sharpness in this image. Could that have been because you used a 1/50th shutter speed? There is a fair bit of vibration in the ultra-light, so I shot all mine at 1/500th (and at a higher ISO with the aperture wide open) to overcome the vibration. Cheers . . . David

Impressive view of the gorges, but there´s something wrong with the focus that make´s it ALMOST-perfect for me.
Great shot anyway.

Great shot, well composed and fantastic focal areas throughout.
The winding valley nicely leads the eye through the shot.
Also the central road is very nicely seen.

Hi Michael,
This shot is very nice. It remembers me at my time there. I did not made the ultralight flight, because I went for the rafting there (excellent as well) - had not the money to do both ;-)
Coming back to the shot, the composition is nice, colors are nice, but I miss a bit of sharpness. I believe it is not easy as the plane is shaking a lot and your heart must have beaten very quickly. Anyway, I like it and could see where I walked around from an angle which is not an usual sight...
Greetings

Obrigado e parabens.
Volta sempre!

Hello Michael!
That's gorgeous! Although I miss a bit more of sharpness, that's a minor flaw when I just look at the beauty of this aerial view and everything that's down there! Fantastic! Amazingly wonderful!
