A Christmas series on Uganda...
Outside of the town of Lira you will find quite some refugee camps. Erute camp is one of the cleaner ones, but little is invested in it since it's a temporary camp. Government investments would basically mean acknowledgement that the refugee problem is not a temporary one... Well, 20 years now...

A little security update of that period in time:
...Eyewitnesses said the attack left bodies strewn all over the camp and terrified survivors scampering to safety. The MP said some of the bodies were found in the nearby bushes. "I have personally counted 192 dead bodies".
Eyewitnesses said the rebels used machetes to hack some of the victims. About 60 people, who sustained burns and machete wounds, were admitted to Lira hospital. The rebels also abducted an unspecified number.

The situation has improved a bit over time, but it is still a forgotten conflict. Today, Ugandan and Congolese officials concluded with a revived determination to launch a joint military offensive against LRA leader Joseph Kony if LRA rebels do not leave their bases in the DR Congo by the end of next month.
There will be more bloodshed over Christmas.

Let them know it's Christmastime again...

Hi Dennis,
Fantastic shot and goob option for B&W image! Good work.
Congratulations and Hug!

photographically excellent work with important background information

Hello Dennis. Uganda. Who does not think there of Idi amine, - and the consequences. Black Africa and black-and-white photos fit contentwise. Your photo is outstanding. Also technically exemplary with good contrasts and grey tones. Informative text. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello Dennis,

Bedankt!

Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John.

Dennis,
First of all, nice portrait, with great attitude from the kids.
And your BW is pleasant, with hard contrasts, and nice exposure overall.
Regards,
JB.

HI< DENNIS!
Amazing picture!
Excellent Work!

Salut Dennis,
A bientôt,
Philippe.

Olá Dennis,

long long time that I don't check your gallery but I remember some of your images. I see two great qualities in this one: one is the sad story behind this image and consequently the context. The other one is the clever option for the b&w with sepia tones...not to mention the superb sharpness. I like this scene a lot. Very well done!
Abraço,
Carlos

Bonjour,
J'aime beaucoup!

Hi Dennis, a pity that there is such a bad light, the scene is great but obviously they weren't in a good position...
