Photographer’s Note
There are many different 'Pygmy' peoples, who live in the rainforests of central and western Africa, They hunt antelopes, pigs and monkeys, fish, and gather honey, wild yams, berries and other plants. They do not assymilate with the majority population and do not do much for profit. Part of the year they do hunt in the rainforests and part of the year they settle nearby villages of local people who do bring them some food, money,...etc. Some of them already mingle with the majority population which makes them to grow higher.
This group in particular I met on the North slopes of the Karisimbi volcanoe (Virunga mountains) in Southwestern Uganda. They did dance and sing just for us and showed us the way they lived. On this picture the kids enjoy some healthy European sweets, which without much effort the Pygmies could make themselves if they would wish.
