Photographer’s Note

Like yesterday’s posting, this shot was taken while gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This 200 kg. male was seated about 6 or 7 feet from us, oblivious to our presence, munching away on leaves and grass.

Taken in color and desaturated.

Welcome back, Mimi. This is amazing close-up! Excellent DOF, very good choice of b/w, and a very interestin "candid" shot (although he was aware to your presence). A great one.

This is a great close-up ,well-framed through the leaves.Your subject certainly seems in a very relaxed and pensive mood. Are they always this calm or do they sometimes get agitated when people get that close?
Desaturation suits this composition very well as the coloured leaves might have been too distracting in the light green of the underleaves.

I'm not a great lover of B&W but suspect in this case that it has helped in framing the subject without distraction. I would guess that the leaves etc which form the frame would be much more intrusive in colour. Here they form a very effective frame. I also like the clear space over the gorilla's head. I envy you having such an opportunity.

Another good picture of a gorilla in its habitat. I like both the natural frame and the use of B&W.

Interesting close-up shot of that huge animal! Nice framing given by the leaves, good DOF! Good choice for the B&W, I like it!

What an experience this must have been, being so close... I can hardly imagine.
I hope to god, I have the oportunity to try this one day.
