Photographer’s Note
This picture shows one of the wards in Mengo hospital, Kampala.
It looks a depressing place but it is not. It is staffed by some wonderful and dedicated people and is doing good work looking after the local community.
The hospital was the first to be built in East Africa. It was built in 1897 by Sir Albert Cook of the Church missionary society. and sits on cathedral road.
In the last year a group of volunteers went there and spent a great deal of money and time sprucing it up with new windows and a coat of paint.
This is the oldest part of the hospital.
