Photographer’s Note
Samuel and Florence Baker discovered major falls on the White Nile in 1864 and named it in honor of the distinguished president of the Royal Geographical Society Murchinson Falls. In 1962, when Uganda was awarded independence, floods opened the second fall. Once the flood was over, the erosion in the new channel was so big, that the second fall has not ceased to exist and got the name of Uhuru, which means in Svahili Independence. During the Amin regime between 1971-1979 the Falls were renamed to Kabalega Falls after the head of the province, where the Falls are located. However after that the original name of Murchinson Falls has been returned.

This is an Amazing photo. It looks as though I'm going to swallowed up by the water in an instant. The mist above the water really stands out. makes it look a little mysterious.

Lovely shot. It conveys a mood of both power and softness. The colours are very well rendered and the POV is quite interesting. Great shot Michael.

Hi Michael. What a sight this must have been. The green vegetation has a beautiful color - of course caused bu the water in the air - and you have made it a nice frame in your motive. In contrast the nearly gold color of the water roaring downhill with great action in the photo, beautiful. The yellow grass in the background is also a nice detail in contrast. Not all to fast shutter keeps the feeling of movement in the stream, looks good, movement doesn't always have to be "frozen". All over wonderfully composed and the foreground cliff is very sharp in the edge. All the water in the air creates some kind of little blurred details, and it looks good in this motive, I think. Good work, I like it a lot, especially the wonderful colors. TFS. Regards Jens

Hi Michael,
Although I love travelling to Africa, I never thought of visiting Uganda and Rwanda but thanks to your pictures, I am almost sure I will be there some time in the future.
The boiling water falling is impressive!

Hi Michael, your POV lets us give the impression that you're standing right in the middle of this water fury. How powerful can it get?
Good choice to use a fast shutter release versus a blurry long expusure that would not be able to transmite the force behing it.
Very good vertical framing.

Good job capturing the power of the water and yet its mysterious myst at the same time. Your writing about the photograph and the origin of the second fall was extremely interesting and gave me a deeper appreciation for this particular fall.

Hi Michael,
Impressive POV showing the extreme power of those waterfalls. Nice colours as well and interesting note. Isn't it dangerous for the camera to be in such a wet atmosphere?
Nice job!
Quentin.

I think your choice of shutter speed works well here. Enough detail is preserved while still giving the photograph's water a sense of motion, which is not as easy as it looks when photographing fast moving water in narrow streams and such.
Great Job.
