Photographer’s Note

On the tip of the sahara desert.

The "building" is a set from the movie The English Patient. Many scenes from big movies, such as Star Wars, Life of Brian and The English Patient, was shot in different places in Tunisia.

There is a lot of interesting historical places in Tunisia. This is where the old Carthage (Kart-hadasht) was. Carthage means "new city" by the way.

A roman amphitheatre can be visited in El Djem
(on UNESCO's world heritage list).

The Punic Wars between Carthage (The Phoenicians) and Rome, led to the destruction of Carthage. The new roman colony was called 'Africa' and that's how the continent got its name.

The picture was taken on an early morning ride on camels and it shows long casting shadows with the set from the movie The English Patient in the background. Hard to believe but it was very cold. As hot it can gets in the day, it can be really cold and freezing at night.

It's a curio photo from my trip to Tunisia in 1999 I haved scanned, so obviously I had to do some damage control, but I hope it still fits the standard.

Have a nice day...
