[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I hope that those who remember my earlier post of this place with pov simliar to this one won't mind the repetition. I didn't resist showing a broader view, although the sharpness of the larger version doesn't satisfy me.

The rest of the note is a transcript of that from the earlier post.

Chenini is an old Berber village on the South Tunisia desert. It is almost deserted now, but not completely. Many, if not all the houses are half troglodyte (some or all of the rooms are actually caves excavated in the soil), so they are naturally acclimatised to resist the harsh climate, very hot in the Summer (more than 40 deg. Celsius) and cold in Winter (less than 10 deg. C.).

It's amazing how people manage to live from agriculture in these desertic region, where even the desert palm trees dry completely if they aren't cared. We were told that they only do agriculture when there is rain and that doesn't happen every year.

I posted a WS showing one of the so called 'oasis' (agricultural) fields of the village, so you can have an idea of the kind of land from which these people manage to extract their food.

Critiques [Translate]

Ora bem, a colagem está perfeita ou, pelo menos, eu não consigo ver nada de anormal. A "Large Version" não aparece. Ao clicar só vejo um espaço branco, nem mesmo a página de fundo do TE.
Quanto à foto, pois na minha opinião, o que ganháste em largura perdeste em pormenores visíveis. Fui ver a outra e acho-a muito mais interessante.

Jose, the self critique is good, and despite the lack of sharpness in the large version the shot is awesome and the note fits well. As for the habitation of the dsert, I asked the same questions when I was in Israel, the people of the desert, no matter their religeon, are amazingly adaptable and rugged. Nice capture.

On le voit parfaitement ton panorama ! Il me donne chaud ... vite une bonne bière ( je n'ai plus de Sagres ...)

Blague à part , c'est une belle photo panoramique . J'aurais cadré moins au centre ... un petit peu moins
de ciel et un peu plus de terre brulée au premier plan !

It looks totally deserted and I'm surprised some people are able to eke out an existence in such hostile terrain. Good choice of pano crop to concentrate on the buildings.

Olá José,
the view itself was already criticised by my in the first one. I focus on this version, hope you agree. I don't think that the sharpness is not sufficient (also in the large version), it is more (for me) the lack of contrast. It is just not easy to see differences in the upper part beside the window holes. Looking at the houses in the lower part, middle of the left half before the brighter ground (also on the right half) it is much more visible because of better contrast by different colours. A quick grey one of this showed me this more. Please remember, I praised the colour spots in the first version. For me it is the content here, which is for our eye not the challenge but for a camera. The quality you achieved couldn't be better in this technical environment. May be a better chance with HDR/DRI or what I think: morning or evening light.

This monochromatic city looks really great. Very good compositions. I like this picture for its simplicity, with domination of two colors of desert: blue sky and Yellow sand rocks, village and everything else.

Hi Jose,
This village in the desert is a model of workmanship and great idea of Tunisians. Good POV and contrast here. This shows how Tunisians try to adjust themselves with the Natures reality.

José, à primeira vista parece apenas uma colina. Aos poucos, os olhos vão descobrindo a infinidade de portas e janelas e a bandeira ao alto. Lembra algo do que vi na região da Capadócia, na Turquia. Bom trabalho, amigo, mesmo a versão ampliada, que me parece muito boa. Abraço! Miguel.

This place is mazing and i think it deserves a second shot indeed. I like the sand colors very much with the sky. maybe some lack of sharpness but nonetheless a good shot.

Hi Jose -bizarre place, looks completely abandoned, I like how the architecture blends with the natural landscape, it reminds me of Cappadoccia in turkey.

Hello Jose. It always amaze me how people can build houses out of a rock face and live in them. A true example of human innovative know-how-to. The long picture looks very good and clear and it helps me to realize that the holes I see on the rock face are windows and doors and not caves. Good work Jose.
