"What is it about doors, we always find ourselves capturing them?"
Sidi Bou Said is a charming little town perched on the hilltop overlooking the Bay of Tunis and the startling blue water is replicated in the traditional deep blue painted doors & windows on white-washed buildings which dominate and magnified the beauty of this place. The houses are built and clustered together and to walk the cobbled alleyways is a photographer's dream and there's always something new to find.
I was very much taken by this intriguing red and green doors crying out to be snapped, sitting it up there quietly hidden in the back street. It's colourfully expressed in need of a closer look which I found rather peculiar and simply 'not there' so to speak, as compared to majority blue in his area. I couldn't help but admire the loving pride that occupant has shown in their front doors.

A slightly surprising composition, or I should rather say that it is a surprise to find this brightly painted welcoming door at the top of these steep steps. You composed this nicely by remaining at the foot of the steps, using the diagonal and depth they create för the best effect. I imagine it would have been easily done to overlook this little hidden gem. It pays to be watchful when roaming an unknown city along with a camera.

Absolutely marvellous, this composition with the white wall and steps leading to the bright red & green door. Your framing and pov brings out the best in the sense of depth and visual impact. Compliments and thanks for sharing.
Have a great new week ahead.

This is a surprising scene for me, the door looks welcoming, its bright colors standing out so well against the very white surround, and with one door open it makes the mind wonder what lies inside! I do like the intriguing way you have composed this, being low to the ground means we can see such excellent texture in the stairs, but they do not look as welcoming as the door. A beautiful contrast and an excellent shock of vibrant color.
thanks as always
rigoletto (34225) 2014-08-03 8:47
dedicatedly north african, this scene. i like how you captured the "dirty" texture of the stairs and composed the scene to lead the eye to the door. the bright red is glowing nicely, i'd still be tempted to apply a little tad of desaturation on it, though this is only personal taste.

bellissimo scatto, la scalinata ci porta dritti alla macchia di colore.
Splendido contrasto, ottimo taglio verticale.

You have discovered a charming scene where color really plays an important part! Love the achieved visual effect built by the strong composition and fantastic saturation. Taken with super sense of depth!
mayjayne (3171) 2014-08-03 9:57
I like the interesting low angled POV you have chosen to feature this door. The bright colours (although a small fraction of the entire composition) contrast very nicely against the whiteness (but nicely textured)of the stairs.

I really like the lead-in to these colorful doors. They jump out brilliantly against all of the white that dominates the scene. The small pots are also lovely. Nice job placing the door at the top right corner of the frame. It's an attractive composition.

Eyecatching door, the composition is perfect, the door is in the strong point, I like the daiagonal line of stairs
ktanska (24258) 2014-08-04 9:51
At least this door is a certain attention grabber. Red and green colours look special above the stairs of this chalk white staircase. Good framing where there's natural path to the top corner.

Ciao Abmdsudi, lovely composition with excellent perspective, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
stego (23096) 2014-08-04 12:55
Indeed the subject seems to crie out loud "snap me". And you did it in an inspired way. I guess that the door is not leaning so much, but I like the perspective you chose, which kind of adds even more charm to the image. It's a very catchy photo!
maria-v1981 (10814) 2014-08-04 14:08
You have really an eye for inventive compositions and your ability to manage with the light gives an intensity to your shots that I admire. The perspective on this one is excellent... amplifying the details and the textures of the walls.
ikeharel (53049) 2014-08-04 23:14
What at first seems as simple picture, turned out when opened the thumbnail to be a great contrast of colors, and fine view upstairs, Abmdsudi.
Painted red and green door, with the two plants-pots on sides, evident of the owners will to add beauty their front entrance.
Well taken shot, have a nice day,
macjake (52930) 2014-08-04 23:19
ah...not the classic blue and black or blue and white door from Sidi Bou Said!
this is an interesting change!
excellent placement of the door way up on the 1/3 top corner too, for obvious reasons it easily creates depth and height.
I like how the steps are kinda dirty too, gives a real 'worn' look to the scene.
lousat (72855) 2014-08-05 6:50
Hi,i been there 8 years ago but i remember very well this curious door made in different colors of the usual white and blue of this unique village, you caught this strange thing in a very original and imposing perspective,i like the lot of space dedicate to the white staircase, and the door on the top is like the cherry on the cake! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano
eldancer1 (25618) 2014-08-05 7:18
Doors are symbolic which could mean opportunity, security, portal among others. You did a wonderful job capturing the white stairs and wall with good details. Well done, tfs.
adramad (35641) 2014-08-05 9:49
In this case breaks, tradition, dominant in the blue doors and windows of Sidi Bou Said, the composition is fantastic, with those stairs, which lead the eye towards the door, which dominates the scene with their striking colors.
Also both sharpness, such as lighting are great.
Well taken photo. I like it
Enjoy a nice day.
Graal (95612) 2014-08-05 10:18
nice composition, perspective and contrast here. Good captured place and theme. Photo I like.
Have a nice evening.
daddo (22932) 2014-08-06 3:47
I cannot go past this arresting image Abmdsudi without complimenting you on capturing the effect of this vibrantly painted door on the otherwise bland colours of the walls and steps. Together they make a statement, one enhancing the other. The composition with the steps leading to the dramatic point is artistically set out. Best regards. Klaudio.
mcmtanyel (10913) 2014-08-06 13:44
A minimalistic color combination yielding a maximalistic impact! I just love it, well seen and rendered!
ourania (27174) 2014-08-07 1:28
this is an exquisite composition with an intriguing perspective, that makes the charming door a captivating focal point. Looking at it from the bottom of the stairway must make the steep way up seem faster and easier. You have given great dynamism to your composition and exalted the textures and the interaction of the colours. This isolated detail looks fascinating, like a fountain of stories. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,
CLODO (29316) 2014-08-09 4:38
the eye is conducted by the white stairs and stay very long on this red and green (opposite colors) door.
adores (34736) 2014-08-10 13:02
I really like this, the beautiful and colourful door at the top and and these old stairs leading us there. The textures are excellent and you framed it perfectly.

What more to said? you always surprised me with new subjects and creative compositions
Here is a well view and taken capture with the white stairs giving perspective and leading the way to the very colorful, charming door
What a pleasure must have been to discover it at the top
The bottle of mineral water add some human presence at the picture
Very well done, tfs
Angshu (54917) 2014-08-14 7:20
This is a fine example as to how composition can make a shot. The off-centre composition with the stairs leads us right upto the top of the flight to the small colourful door. This shot is unimaginable without the wide lens which you used to the fullest extent for maximum impact. This is one of your rare shots without a human presence...but very graceful in execution!
Waylim (25162) 2014-08-14 21:19
Many wonderful shot I missed. I wanted to be back here more but there always something that annoyed me on this site. I can't do this, I can't do that. The image I post was blur....
Anyway, this is a very unique shot, with most white and at the end of the stair the red and green. I see a red and ripe water melon :)
