"(Janan, Posted 2007-01-12)
Hi, I am from Slovakia and love Tunisia. But I am surprised how few woman wear hijab or other covering of the head. Definitely Tunisian government should accept the religion of Islam. I also agree that young people should be taught what Islam is and what customs are. I would encourage Muslims in Tunisia to educate in Islam and think about connections between daily behaviour and Islam. And to be open to modern society, because I don't think religion is something old fashioned."

While browsing for information on Tunisian culture and fashion, I came across hundreds of different opinions (above is just one example). But what I found interesting is that ALL views expressed were regarding women's fashion – no one's talking about men's fashion.
Wonder why is that?

Hi Robert,
Excellent image in B& W. It is really this diversity of cultures that enriches "our" world, nominated to that so are taken root because of the customs and of the religion. The cultural tradition of a people who for times the occidental world does not understand, therefore the inaqualities are very evidentes.
Interesting contrast between the men and the woman. Congratulations for the work. Compliments cordials,
Isa

Dear Robert, it is a really good daily like photo expressing deep social phenomena related to situation of women in the Northern-African arabic societies. BW is a prefect choice. Many thanks for this photo. Jalab

(Yes I can see the contrast between the western type clothes of the young men and the traditional wear of the woman, such unequality is shocking from an european point of view!)

hello robert

an excellent street shot! an interesting observation about the differences between the gender attitudes as they concern modern/traditional clothing. but what really shocks me is the fact that the author of the quote you have chosen comes from SLOVAKIA... out of all places...

warm regards,
kristaps

Bo zycie jest niesprawiedliwe po prostu.. bo najpierw sie jest mlodym a potem juz nie ma powrotu.. bo rodzisz sie kobieta tam gdzie mezczyni moga wiecej..
dzielna kobieta? pogodzona? obojetna?
idzie ulica w Tunezji..
stoi po stronie tradycji. pewnie maz mowi, ze w ten sposob szanuje ja bardziej?
z pozdrowieniami, Agnieszka

Well taken shot, there appears to be something interesting going on here - looks good in B&W :)

Great : that pointed finger makes an invaluable addition, like he was complaining about the older grouch behind. "Mom always insist to accompany me when I buy my clothes but she's too traditional, she would like me to wear a tarbouch... Me, I prefer italian stripes, see."

Bonjour Robert,
Kind regards.
Daniel.

Brilliant contrast in clothing Robert, arrogance just oozes from this guy in the pin striped jacket and glasses as he leaves the woman behind.

Hi Robert
Don't know anything about fashion:) but i do like your B&W picture.
Very nice tones, and a good setup with the almost covered woman and the guy in suit in the foreground.
Very nice picture.
Harry

You've opened up a can of worms here that most people have ignored. Commenting on others' cultures should be done in private. A non-cultural comment from me on men's fashion is, he shouldn't wear two different kinds of stripes together. It probably looked even more horrendous in colour. :D Sorry to be facetious! :)
Kath

Robert: this shot has a reel HCB feel to it - nice unobtrusive slice of streetlife here and I think your choice of BW works great. Happy travels, best, c

hello Roby,

Indeed, so true , why not for men ???? i find it very discriminating, nobody should tell me what to wear !!!
great composition, i like the men almost walking out of the frame and the woman looking a bit disturbed. very good in b&w. great image ! fine streetphotography !!
greetings, inn

A funny title and telling expressions, splendid B&W photo...
I would never have thought of taking such a scene but I should !!!
Excellent (and interesting note too !)
Have a great WE,
Cath.
