In these days when there is much talk of judicial affairs of Berlusconi, i think that it's right to show the tomb of his political and spiritual father, Bettino Craxi, dead and buried in Hammamet, Tunisia.I was very surprised to see the total abandonment of the Catholic cemetery pf this city, where the graves are falling apart and the watchman sleeps in a chapel.
Craxi escaped the laws he had once contributed to make, by fleeing to Hammamet, Tunisia, in 1994, and remained a fugitive there, protected by Ben Ali's government. He repeatedly declared himself innocent, but never returned to Italy where he had been sentenced to 27 years in jail because of his corruption crimes (of these, 9 years and 8 months were upheld on appeal). He died on 19 January 2000, at the age of 65, from complications of diabetes.

Ciao caro Luciano,
Unfortunately, every time I hear the name Silvio Berlusconi, I immediately think of "our" Silvio! But, of course, Berlusconi is a different man altogether!
Your note is interesting as also is your photograph and it is nice to see and read fascinating facts relating to our political peers.
Lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and slarity.
AROBN54 (11475) 2013-08-02 18:56
Very well done, Luciano,
lovely soft colors, excellent exposure and splendid sharpness and detail. Despite the stone and flag being centered, the vines to the left and podium on the right balance the shot beautifully. A REALLY good note, also, to explain the shot. Politicians must be the same worldwide. Too bad so many of them are never brought to justice. Many thanks and kindest wishes,

very beautiful picture of this man. This picture you wonderfully composed. Perfectly well done. Tfs and with interesting note.
All the best and have a great WE,

very interesting note and posting in the right time. Nice photo of this tomb still cared for. Simple but the wall covered with bougainvillea and Italian flag looks so charming.
tedesse (25135) 2013-08-02 23:13
Too bad man, he had to stay in exile and die at that age. Diabetes is a silent destroyer of man, I know something about this because I get sick on it.
Have a nice weekend

Se glorie fossero davvero state.....
snunney (101634) 2013-08-03 2:56
Your note is most interesting, I remember reading about this gentleman in the English newspapers some years ago. I am not sure why but politics seems to have more than its fair share of corrupt individuals wherever in the world they may be. Good capture of this final resting place.
jacquest (18927) 2013-08-03 4:47
Interesting note and good capture of this tribute. The image is very sharp.

krzychu30 (15512) 2013-08-03 5:59
interesting picture that fits well in current situation around Silvio Berlusconi.I must admit I learn about Craxi now from your picture.I´ve never heard about him and did not know, there was somebody who already had to escape from Italy to avoid administration of justice.
Sad to see his grave far from his homeland, but it shows we´ll all answer for our actions someday.
Wish You a nice weekend my friend

A reminder that we will be judged for our actions, and remembered for what we do. The same fate awaits us all, and I only hope that the memories of me will be positive ones, not tinged with corruption. This is a great scene and a great way to present the grave. The combination of your POV, the flag, flowers and white stone all make a really interesting subject. Shame to hear the cemetery is abandoned, but like so many others around the world I guess.
All the best

it`s quite interesting to see that the shrine to this disgraced politician is in remarkably good conditionand not one of the neglected.
The older that I get the more cynical I become of politicians world wide...
holmertz (54961) 2013-08-03 10:32
Honestly, this is a fairly ordinary photo, well taken and with good colours, but what it shows and what you write in the note is a lot more interesting. I'm diabetic and have already passed Mr Craxi's age so at least I have done something better of my life than he. Also I am no crook (as far as I know) :-). I hope to be able to stay around long enough to see where Berlusconi ends up.

A topical image that draws attention to many contemporary issues of Italian politics that clearly have a long history! I did not know anything about this but I do know thanks to your note.
carlo62 (50800) 2013-08-03 14:46
bukitgolfb301 (42928) 2013-08-03 16:03
Hi Ciao dear Luciano
I see, just know about that story. Ya this is a principle of TE. The best exposure with nice light catching makes so clear and sharp prensentation as usual. I like this tasteful color touch as your tatse.
Thanks a lot and have a good Sunday! Takero

Bonjour, cher Luciano,
ikeharel (73549) 2013-08-04 2:09
I remember Bettino Craxi as a PM in Italia, Luciano, he was a true friend of Israel at a time of distress.
The surprising fact was, that I did not know he was exiled in Tunisia and burried there.
Nice gesture, well placed POV, and fine colors mingle on image.
Fis2 (100668) 2013-08-04 3:55
Good frame and colors.
Have a nice afternoon.

Ciao Caro Luciano,
I found these notes most interesting as I know little about the politics of Italy, other than what I see on the International News.
In every way, this is a well composed shot, the elements well positioned in the frame, with the colourful roses framing the flag of Italy and bounding the whole.
The newly placed flowers show that someone is still caring for this grave even if others have fallen into decline.
Have a lovely Sunday,

Very interesting text, which refreshes the memories and serves to enhance and make the great value that a witness has this image.
At least this corner of the cemetery is maintained and decorated with potted plants, creating a relaxing and enjoyable image.
The light is magnificent and perfect sharpness.
Well done. I love it.
Have a good Sunday.

Thanks for interesting informative note. Craxi was a very famous politician, but honestly I forgot about his problems. Poor man. You have captured his last resting place very well. Greetings, Miro.

I don't like politics. Berlusconi in Italia but in Poland we have very similar known persons confused in scandals - they are dark characters!
... but let's say about your photo. Splendid colours and sharpness. I can see many detais. The POV and presentation of this place are very good.
Warm regards, Leszek
PS. Very interesting note.
ourania (47784) 2013-08-04 8:09
Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona serata,
jemaflor (99075) 2013-08-04 8:33

very interesting image. unfortunately in brazil the corrupts never had a necessity to escape of this country, they are living here and can be candidates in the next elections..
very interesting and mean full image.

Good frame to show a little tomb in front of the wall, the scene is good matching to a proverb that remind us as "facing to the wall and rethink about the mistake that you had create", intersting composition, distinct photo, good shoot.
maloutim (9639) 2013-08-05 0:49
Urs (14082) 2013-08-05 3:55
Politics has its own twists and turns globally. What Berlusconi is doing has been done by others in Thailand as well. I'm not surprised how the grave of the former PM Craxi looks like, in the end everybody gets what he deserves. Good photo job
Oceania (5202) 2013-08-05 5:19
As for a famous political figure, his tomb is small and simple. But the setting is peaceful and beautiful.

It's a simple shot within the contraints packed with details, but specks of bright vivid colours add the total strength of the shot, Well done
