Photographer's Note

Le mausolée de Sidi Sahab, généralement appelé mosquée du Barbier, est en fait une zaouïa (une confrérie et un centre d'enseignement religieux) qui se trouve hors les murailles de la médina.

La population y vénère un saint local de Kairouan, un certain Abou Zamaa al-Balaoui, un compagnon du prophète Mahomet. Selon la légende, il aurait conservé trois poils de la barbe du prophète, d'où l'appellation donnée à l'édifice (mosquée du Barbier).

La cour, les salles, le mausolée et la medersa sont couverts de superbes céramiques et de stuc (mélange de chaux aérienne éteinte et de poudre de marbre ici).

I like the pastel tones and the geometric composition of this photograph ! Great variety in one photograph. The beautiful pillars captured in a range of shades is pleasing. The intricate artwork on the doorways - which again has a geometric mix of the arch & the rectangle - is captured in detail. Your frame keeps the man sitting on the doorway - which is excellent.
