Shadow Child

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A silhouette of a young girl in Togo, wandering the village.
Sadly in Togo, child slavery and forced labor is all too real. It is estimated that in 2006 over 300,000 children in Togo were living in conditions of slavery. That's more than the population of many cities! Some times a parent cannot afford to feed the whole family, so they sell a child. Other times, the parents are told their child will work in another town and send money back to the family, only the child is never seen again.
In this photo, the girl is safe in her village, but it reminds me of all the faceless children in Togo who are in the shadows of slavery right now. |

Hi Adrienne!
what you write in your note is terrible. Strange that many people in TE opened your picture and nobody wrote anything till now, at least fo clicking on "useful" under your note.
I see that you visited very poor areas in Africa, I think that such a trip may change one's life, it must be very hard to see such people.
Just yesterday I saw Kiarostami movie "ABC" about AIDS orphans in Uganda, did you see it? Very well done.
And this blue dress "shadow" little girl is really moving. Brava!!

Adrienne,
She is a striking darkness against the vibrant ground and especially her dress ..
thoughtful evocative image that amplifies your note.
take care,
John
Hello Adrienne,
A very sad note that you have written here. This makes the photo a sad one, indeed Africa is unfortunately (and with the help of hundreds years of western exploitation) a very sad continent when you consider human rights.
Emotionally this photo has great impact, the charm of this little girl considered with what happens or may happen to her.
Your compo and use of light is also very good. Three colors: blue dress, brown soil and green grass are aesthetically very beautiful. I even like the stone on the left, it really adds to the compo.
Very good. TFS,
Deniz
