This post follows on from the dhow building image I posted previously. Our walk along the beach on the Sunday morning took us to the fishing village and dhow building capital of Zanzibar, Ras Nungwi on Unguja Island. The tide was going out fast, so no-one was going fishing. The shoreline was busy with fishermen maintaining their dhows and their fishing nets.

Hello Kath,

This image is very nice. The composition is very well balanced and the peaceful atmosphere inspired by the resting fishermen is very appealing. Nice colours and good sharpness to enhance the quality of the image. Thanks for sharing.

Ciao Kath,
another "work daily life" scene really well captured by you, the colors are very natural and the crop is perfect, I like a lot the alternative in WS, two beautiful work, BRAVA!!!

have a nice day,
Fabio.

Hello Kath,
A very appealing composition complemented by lovely soft colours and excellent textures in the old wooden boat. Good daily life shot, well worthy of TE.

Bonjour Kath
Nicole

Hello Kath,
A kind of blue toning inside, but that doesn't hurt the picture at all. Because there are red and yellow elements inside it brings out that contrast even more, i like to see that. Composition is just fine white the boat a placed a bit off center and the low tide makes nice patterns all athe way throught he picture...really nice.
Regards, Henk

Bonjour Kath

Hello Kath
A very good frame of this boat and a picture with natural soft colors.Une very good composition.
Good day.

Hi Kath,

Very nice. The main posting as well as the workshop! The open top space and the diagonal of the boat are really pleasant in the workshop. Right here it is the contrast of the bustling activity and the guy in red sitting lazy on the back of the ship.
Maybe a slight unsharp masking to get the boat a bit more in the picture, but very pleasant how you set it a slight bit off-center. Both the workshop and the main posting are nice work!

Greetings,
Dennis

Hello Kath,

Bien vu !

A+

Hi Kath
Typical seascape of the Indic coast of Africa.
Fabulous scenario with stunning diffused light.
I really appreciated it

Hi Kath
The light is even which makes their colourful shirts stand out. The lines created by the masts and booms add a strong visual interest. I quite like the WS version as it shows these guys hard at work patching the old dhow.

Both this and the ws are very nice pictures of daily life there. Interesting boat!! Nicely framed and good colors! TFS

Hi kath great one I really liked the old fisherboats.
Great colours and contrast and the sharpness is perfect
well done

Hello Kath,

A composition well balanced with the fishermans and its boat in the foreground, a great prospect at the sea and a superb sky.
An another very nice photo.

Roger

Hi, Kath -

A nice daily life composition here, and the main is better than the WS - as you say, the mast was in the wrong place. But I think the colors in the WS were better; you could touch this up a bit. See my WS - all I did was lower the midtones a bit.

Best,
Dan

Hi Kath.

This scene looks superb and the whole photo too. The contrasts and the colours are amazing and also I like the timming.

Well done and thanks for sharing.

Hi, Kath. The boats and especially the masts stand out very well against the sky. The colours of the men's clothes also add contrast in the foreground. The people wading in the sea give a good sense of depth. They are very well placed under the horizontal mast. I also like the WS made by Dan, which enhances the colours.

Bonjour Kath,

Good morning Kath,
nice continuation of your previous shot. Excellent scene from the daily life of these fishermen that maintaining their dhows and their fishing nets.I think that your action to lower the levels midtone slider to 0.79, has better vivid colors than the main one.Informative your note too.

Have a nice day,Danos

Hi Kath

A superb coastal daily life scene, of the fishing boat, with excellent color, sharpness & lighting contrasts. I like the repetition of the people on the horizon at left. Tfs!

Kath,
Great image, with great details on the boat.
Chromatic balance is very good too, with the red shirt of the man.

Hi Kath,
another great shot of a nice scene! This trip to Tanzania must have been amazing and you brought some great shots with you!
This one is another excellent one, great colors and sharpness, great POV. Thanks for sharing this one!

Best regards
Mark

Kath,
I see that you were quite busy over the last days while I was gone. I met Pat and Larry and showed them a little bit around John Day so that they know where to take you when you are there in September. Unfortunately the distance from my place to Painted Hills and Sheep Rock is to big to make a short trip and meet you ...
Anyway, getting back to business and stop whining. What a marvelous shot. The type that would be an outstanding eye catcher in any tourist book of Lonely Planet or alike.
Peter

Hi Kath,
You've captured a true slice of life in the colors of a dream. The WS is also fascinating, not only does it show the men at work, but I love the way it reaches into the distance showing tiny people walking in the beautiful turqoise sea.
HLJ, Pat

Hello Kath,

You are recording high quality images of scenes which may disappear in the next decade or two. They are very valuable documents!

Both shots have tremendous merit.
I like this because of its composition and context, its details and colours.
I like the other, almost equally well, for similar reasons except, as you say the mast is tight, but the men are more interestingly employed and the sea makes a better b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kath,
I have been away for a long time but I can see you keep posting high quality pictures and also traveling around the world. Very nice POV with well balanced colors. I really liked the atmosphere of this place. Thanks for adding the alternative WS.

Hi Kath,
You have the most unusual African Safari travel series that I have ever seen. I wasn't expecting to see a seafaring image. This is a great shot and and excellent addition to your series and an outstanding job of mixing up your wide variety of subject matter. You must be a very well rounded and versatile person to have taken such a diversity of subject matter. I believe that our personalities always show up in our photography. I am sure that you have some more surprises in store for us!

Very good description by image and notes.

Hello Kath,
Another beautiful image form Africa & Zanzibar in particular. Well composed & natural colours are superb, In my opinion your WS version is every bit as good if not better.
Thanks
Santo

Hello Kath,
wonderful composition and perspective of this boat in this immense beach. Also perfect light and sharpness and a good contrast with these different colours. The melting of colours and of the human element really fascinates me. I'd stay hours in contemplation of this very special photo from you. Brava.
All the best.

Hi Kath,
A very elegant compo, great clarity, sharpness and light, very effective showing the daily life of those people. The red shirt of the lazy :-) man gives a nice colour punch. You took profit wisely of the smooth light that probably would make the image dull if it was shot by many of us.
Regards, José.

Hi Kath,

While waiting for the rising tide, these men prepare their nets for the next fishing year !!! I like much the colours of the image, they are soft and very pleasant. The scene is well framed and I like also the version proposed in WS. Pretty Kath glance, cheer.

Hello Kath
The low tide creates the layers of sand & sea, which makes nice viewing. Here the men seem to be idling or taking a break whereas they're in action in the WS. Composed with usual finesse, with the off-centre boat. Seeing people so far, wonder if the sea is quite shallow upto that distance. Fine work!
Best Regards
Angshu
