There were lots of baboon troops at Lake Manyara National Park. They even visited the lodge. These two were part of a troop in the forest on the way to the lake itself. It was not far from where we saw the fighting elephants. I love their habit of grooming each other.

Lake Manyara National Park is a small park in northern Tanzania. It is said to be a microcosm of most habitats of African wildlife. The park is only 330sq km with, as the name suggests, a lake, which attracts a variety of bird species. The entrance gate is about 1½ hours from Arusha and was the first park we visited.

Hi Kath

Good symmetry of the preening monkeys with superb sharpness & dof. Good colour & pov. Well done!

Wonderful wildlife picture! I have noticed in zoos that these animals take care each other. The moment you captured them was very good as well as the focus! I like the clarity and the background, too.
Warm regards,
Athanasios.

This is really sweet. Well taken and nicely framed. TFS

Oh so cute.
Thank you for bringing me back to tanzania with your shots I Really like your shots.
also this Maybe I will upload a monkey picture soon too.
Well done Kath

Hi Kath,
I continue to find it very interesting that your wildlife lens of choice was your 24-120mm zoom. You can really get in close on these tours. This is your best wildlife post yet, among many outstanding ones. Baboons aren't on everyone's favorite animal list, but the composition, blistering sharpness and the expressions of the baboons are fabulous!
Absolutely incredible! This one goes into my favorites!
Stan

Hello Kath,
Funny, but also very good. The interaction between those two is very well captured and your exposure here is much and much betetr than the previous version. Also the vertical framing works very good with that diagonal treetrunk in front...i like it.
Regards, Henk

Hi, Kath -

I had to laugh when I saw this! It is soooo typical of baboons and other primates (man excepted, I suppose, but my wife and I were once groomed by a semi-tame Gelada baboon in Ethiopia). And the look on the groomie's face is priceless.

Baboons are a nuisance, as Stan hinted, but they can be fun to watch.

Best,
Dan

Hi Kath,
Excellent portrait of those two baboons on the tree. It's indeed great to see how they take care of each other and you captured it wonderfully in this photo. They stand out nicely against the green background too. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kath,

I can see you have been on a fantastic journey since the last time I was on TE. I'm so jealous you got such fantastic wildlife photos. The only way I see things like that are at a zoo (snoozer) or on TV (even snoozier!). Nice timing with the shot. I look forward to seeing more.

Mel

Salut kath
une image pleine de tendresse et une scéne bien capturée, mais je trouve que c'est trop centré tu aurai pu donné plus d'espace au dessus dans le cadrage
amitiés
gilbert

Kath,
Great catch from these monkeys.
Sharpness and all technical elements are great, nice job.
Regards,
JB.

Hello Kath,
Nice scene of this grooming in family. It is a good capture, spontaneous and very funny, with much quality of image, which allows us to see all the details.
The setting is perfect.
Great work, as usual, my friend.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hi Kath,
I can almost hear his moans of delight!! You've framed it perfectly, the detail and DOF are impeccable and the colors true. I LOVE it!!

I'm sure we won't have anything as fabulous as this trip for you although I'm very much looking forward to your visit. We're on our way to meet Peter and some Oregonians at Painted Rocks and there were snow warnings last night. We might be wishing for snow in September!!
HLJ, Pat

Bonjour Kath
C'est un vrai régal tes photos animalières! Encore une superbe composition avec une très belle netteté, une image bien contrastée et un joli cadrage, bravo à toi c'est une très belle réussite!

Hi Kath. Where ignorance is bliss, it is folly to be wise. But not here. Here the bliss is eternal perfectly captured and framed. Regards.

Hello Kath,
It's funny! Good framing, sharpness and contrast. This park is very interesting.

Hi Kath,
What a sweet moment even for monkeys ... well captured. Very good image quality ... I like the shallow DOF. Well composed! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Kath
These are really cute. You've framed them nicely on the log with their tails draping over. Their fur is nice and sharp and it contrasts against the green vegetation.
Regards
Nikki

Hello Kath,

A very beautiful photo in your serie on the animals of Africa. The attitude of tenderness is very well collected. A great commposition also.

Have a good evening,
Roger

.. tomorrow

Hi, Kath. A touching scene with these two baboons grooming each other. The one on the right seems to be enjoying it. The fact they are sitting on a trunk brings them out quite well in the picture. The contrast with the surrounding vegetation is another way of attracting our attention towards them. As someone already pointed out, I think it would have been better if the animals had been looking in your direction.

A great nature shot Kath. These guys are interacting with each other in their environment. Well composed and well exposed.

Hi Kath, great one, well built, excellent quality, light, colorful and funny.
thanks, ciao

Kath,
such a typical moment in a monkey's life. I wish we humans would have kept that in our habits ;-) Nice capture that you got here and it seems that they didn't bother with your camera and presence. The moment of indulgence was more important.

Hi Kath,
I though that you might be running of new animals to include in your African portfolio. This is once again an excellent shot. Very attractive light and very sharp. You must be very, very pleased with your trip to Tanzania from photographic point of view. I love the great variety of your pictures. TFS and have a nice evening!

Hi Kath,

There is of them one which seems to like !!! A photograph amusing on this meeting of delousing. Beautiful catch of sight on these two baboons which bring out on this vegetable bottom. Beautiful qualities of image. Thank you Kath

With all my friendships and a very good evening,

Jean-Charles

Hey Kath,
Looks like Manyara alright!
Youve got a good action moment captured of these 2 baboons. Well done with the wildlife photography.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Kath,

Scratch my throat and I'll scratch yours... :-P)

I think monkeys look at their best and most captivating when imitating humans in their behaviour. The interaction between both is there to catch attention and elevate the "interest factor". Your collection of wild animals is highly captivating and the consistency of quality is way up there.

Cheers!

André

Hi Kath,
A beautiful capture of this pair of baboons. Super pose. Good colours and clarity.
Nice note.
Thanks
Regards
Santo

Hello Kath!
Very nice picture with amazing colors, great contrast and excellent sharpness.
You chose a brilliant point of view to capture this really nice scene.
I also like the frame which matches to the composition very well!
Jona

Hello Kath -

"Oooo. that feels good." Well seen naturalists image. Composition is spot on with the baboons slightly off center and a slice of the environment to place the subjects in. I particularly like how the tails lay on the log and you have included them in the image. Everything about this image is spot on the money. Well done.

Thank you for sharing.

John

Hi Kath,
Excellent shot! Great colours, depth and good POV. Well done.
Have a good sunday.

A touching intimate scene... :D It would be almost obscene if they weren't monkeys. LOL!
Perfect DOF and light, very, very funny. Bravo for the greatest nature photographer of TE!

Good picture of the couple here, I guess removing lice & insects from the fur. Wish we could see the face of the baboon on the left, but given the difference in sizes, is the one on the right a male & the other female? Fine use of DOF for this picture. Well done!

Angshu

Hi Kath
Lovely capture of these nice animals. I like the scene, good colours and depth of field.
Regards

Lovely and tender and peaceful... Love it !
Also all the green around, it makes me happy...
Compliments (and thanks again for your WS),
Cath.

The texture of the woods is simmilat to the skin of the baboons. I like the long tails...........and was thinking.......what the baboons were doing?
Sure, grooming is what they usually love......and the title is perfect.....Bliss.

Regards,
Rajeev

Sometimes I think I should be in TN because I love animals. Not cows or bufalos in particular as you might think but all kind. And monkeys are also among my favorites. Oh well, I don't have enough pics with animals, that's why. And the few I have, I don't dare to post here...
Anyway, this couple is cute. The male on the right must be a chief and of course that deserves all the especial treatment that he wishes. The best detail for me is that gentle little hand. In fact, both hands. And the fluffy fur. I want to grab that fur with my hands. Adorable pair.
I guessed that you won't post for a while, because your last post is going to reach 200points... ;-)
ric
p.s.- by the way, I think that the fighting elephants as WS is better than the main post...the action is great :)
