[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Frederic Remington is a 19th (and early 20th) century painter best known for his images of the American west. This image somehow reminded me of his paintings, though it's taken on the floor of Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania! The crater, which is almost 20 km (12 miles) across and 600 m (2000 ft) deep, is filled with wildlife. Landscape varies from grassland to forest. Unlike some of their counterparts outside, many Ngorongoro animals are year-round non-migrating residents.

Hi Ken
This is a splendid shot. Obviously the scan is not very good. Have you tested a noise reduction using i.e. NeatImage ?
Good note.
Cheers
JP

Great shot Ken, it certainly does have a painting feel to it.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ken,

I don't think you must try to smoothen up your picture with neatimage. Than you wille loose the effect of the drawd wildebeests, wich give your photo its 'cachet'.
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

cette photo me rappelle de superbes souvenirs (février 2005) j'ai également pris ces gnous avec leurs petits mais je ne l'ai pas posté sur TE, je vais le faire tiens lundi. dommage le fond on voit le grain.

Like a painting! The colour and definition is soft and subtle, like a painting. Fantastic depth also, with the close up of the animals and the hills in the distance. If you haven't seen it yet, maybe you should check out the latest issue of Lenswork magazine, which has some incredible shots of African wildlife. Well done Ken!

Hi Ken. It's amazing how the bottom half of this photograph looks like a painting. As others have pointed out, there is a problem with noise in the top half of the photograph, so perhaps you could have tried removing the noise there without touching the bottom half. That way you would not lose any detail on the wildlife. Cheers . . . David
