The fishmarket of Zanzibar is maybe one of the most interesting places on the island. When I took this picture(1992) people's reaction to the camera was stil a hostile one. After a lot of years of comunism Tanzania opened to the international tourism in the 90's. The old population (even if Muslim) was still afraid of "stealing their faces" and using their picture to make black magic. The "animist" traditions were very strong especialy in the most remote villages with little or no tourist contact.
