Zanzibar's Stone Town has some of the most beautiful doors that I have seen, with exquisite and intricate details.
In Stone Town, there were around 806 wooden doors dating from the era of Sultan Barghash (1870-1880). Designs originate from Arabic and Indian influences.
During the 1980s it was recognized that many of the old doors were being removed and exported, endangering the cultural heritage of Stone Town, and it was a concern that the art and craft of carving would be lost. But now they are preserved.
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore.
It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Hi Wanda. Not the usual engaging human study but not any less captivating as the door like a human face shows a past history and the effects of time. I had heard about the pillaging of these doors and am glad that your note ends in a positive key. Best wishes. Klaudio.

Une photo de très belle qualité de ce vieil anneau de porte. Beau rendu de la matière et jolis tons d'image.

Nice title, well fitting this shot.
I like the composition balanced between the wood sculptur in foreground and the metal ring in background, also using a graduated blur.
Then, the unity of color in the gold range is ending to get this charming shot.
I never went in Zanzibar, but when I see all the shots you posted, the ones of André and Yquem46, it is giving the wish to visit this island.

Bonjour Wanda ,
j'adore ce genre de détail . Superbe utilisation de la profondeur de champ (chose que je ne sais maleureusemnt pas faire) .

A very nice detail from this old door. I love the fine texture of the well worn wood. The nice woodcarvings to the left are deliberately out of focus but the beauty of the craftsmanship is not lost.
