The sky has caused the rest of the picture to slightly under expose creating an almost silhouette. To me it also looks slightly tilted to down to the left. Composition would have been better if the rest of the tree had been included on the right. I do like the way the giraffes look so small in the landscape, putting some perspective on the picture.
I like that picture because it's exactely how I imagine Africa, thank you!
But I think it's a little bit too tightly framed (tree on the right), the image could be sharper and a bit rotated to the right.

I do no know if you could have taken this picture close to the ground. A lion could have made you his dinner!. However, when photographing sunsets and sunrises place the camara in a tripod (a most for any photographer)get it the closest you can to the ground, compose and shoot away. I am sure you will like the results.
As for this particular picture you could use photoshop to dodge the lower part of the picture a see the results.
