You were really close to these people, Great Documentary.

Hey, great shot! By the time you get a 5D to Tanzania, you've already figured out exposure and composition. Good subject and moment. Maybe a little larger aperature to bring in more detail of the hands?

Superb colours, Maciej. A such a touching image for this tiemn of year.

There is something very different about a people photographing themselves, from someone from outside living with a group of people and making regular images, to someone photographing them completely from outside and 'travelling' through'...the nature, urgency, style and subject matter can vary enormously....this is such a dramatic looking shot of an 'everyday' situation, almost cinematic.....an image of the sort which is used by aid agencies and the press to 'sell' the lives of others.....towards the work of professional photographers here Maciej.......

Hello, Maciej--
Very nice piece, the hands leading in from all angles are a tremendous compositional element, and because of them i can't take my eyes off of the baby's face. i also think that the heavily bokehed face of the doctor works well, tying in the right side of the frame. A very moving and powerful piece.
Thanks!
sam

a very special picture!
Well done
Ingrid

Great moment and documentation. Very touching to see that little face near the big hands. Impressing shot, Nino.

What strikes me here is that what is probably a routine procedure looks like an ordeal for this baby. The look on his (?) face, especially with the light directly on him, the close focus, and all of the hands right around him give the shot an urgency that I don't think would be there if we saw more of the mom and the doctor. I'm also struck by the contrast among the three sets of hands -- the tiny baby hand, the doctor's smooth hands, and the mom's rough one.

Briliant Maciej. First of all, the definition and the technical quality of your shot. I am sure that prime helps, but your skills are just amazing. I wish I had a tenth of them... And then there is your incredible sensibility in recording a moment. I had to call for my wife to see this one. She also was striked by it... The kid grabbing all the focus, the amazing light, the hands, the rest oof... I may know little about photography but I feel even smaller in front of this. Thanks for sharing.

'lo mister Dakowicz. So you're making a step forward in the business. Pro work; how much of your heart have you put into this though? I'm proud of what you've been achieving photography wise lately, Maciej. Have a great new year.

powerful stuff maciej, the lighting in this is very effective. keep up the good work.

Hi Maciej.

How many stories and lifes could hide a picture like this one?
I think that this is real a masterpiece.
There is life, there is people and also there is a great work behind the camara.
I love it.

Regards.

This one is fine as a documentary pic (better than kid portraits looking at the camera if you want my honest opinion ;)...). Light is faling exactly at the right place but I think you're a bit on the cold side when it comes to chromatism (see the shadows on his white shirt are almost purple) : I wouldn't mind a warmer balance like "sunlight" or "overcast".
Are you going to Zanzibar now? I'm packing for Delhi tomorrow.

Hello Maciej,
I am just discovering this one, which could make the front page of a great magazine, because it is so actual,so powerful and technically so good.

I like your compo from above.
Continue to post here in 2007 !
All the best, rgs

Hello Maciej,

you know, it took me a while before I could pry myself away from my original glance at this photo; having the hands all directly pointing at the baby really helps to draw in the viewer. It feels very documentary and is the type of photo that could easily lure people into an article whether they want to read it or not -> you just feel very there after viewing so you need to know more...

really great job on this photo Maciej, thanks for sharing.
