Zanzibar is actually an archipelago of many small islands and two larger ones, Unguja Island and Pemba Island. It is Unguja to which most people refer when they say “Zanzibar”. Zanzibar and Tanganyika amalgamated in 1964 to become the United Republic of Tanzania. The name is an obvious amalgamation of the two places. The islands are situated in the Indian Ocean just off the coast of mainland Tanzania.

After seven days on safari we drove back to Arusha for a flight to Zanzibar and some R&R to ease the sore backs. We landed on Unguja Island and drove to the north and Nungwi where we stayed for two nights in a small beach hotel.

I took this photo early one morning before breakfast about 100m from our room.

You picture is beautifull. Colors and light are amazing.
Thanks for this post
Bertrand

this is very nice good work on capturing the just in time for it to hit the shore

Hello Kath,
A very pleasing seascape with great colours and clarity. I like the well chosen point of view with the rollers breaking over the rocks and the boats in the background. Looks a very nice place to rest and recuperate. Good work.

Great PoV and amazing colours! The vast horizon is attractive! Good capture of the wave actions, too. The light management and the definition of the details are fine. Thank you Kath for sharing this picture with all of us.
Greetings from Greece,
Athanasios.

Hello Katherine,
Zanzibar, what a complete different world than the safari shots from the parks. The ocean blue colours are wonderful, but also the boat and the waves that are bounching against the bolders is very good captured....i like it.
Regards, Henk

Hello Kath,

Interesting notes, as usual.
The first thing that struck me was the colour of the sea. It is the colour I hold in my mind of the waters around some areas of Crete: a wonderful glassy, greeny blue. It looks so inviting!
Excellent composition and interesting light.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kath. Such purity of light and colour.Nicely composed with the white sands, the white foam and then the glorious blue. the dark shapes of the boats and the wooden stumps add to the beauty of the scene. Regards. Klaudio.

This is one part of Tanzania that I did not visit last summer, and your photo gives me a perfect excuse to go back there soon in the future. Quite a balance photo, I love where you have put the line of the horizon.
Take care,
Miguel

Hi Kath

An incredible azure / turquoise colour tone, of the tropical sea. My shots from Thailand/Indonesia, often got critiqued that the colour was "unnatural/ over saturated", but it really is this colour. Tfs!

Hello Kath,
very nice shot with great perspective and POV.Excellent capture with the little boats in the sea with turquoise color, in the moment of the high tide..The colours and the light are splendid as the deceive moment from you to 'catch' this scene.Informative your note.

Regards,Danos

Hi Kath,
Bright blue water, smooth sand and old boats give tropical feeling. It sure is nice to take it easy after all excitement on safari. I think ND grad effect is rather strong this time, leaving waves rather pale compared to the sky.
Kari

Gorgeous colour Kath. The composition is spot on with the main boat at an intersecting point. Great stop action on the wave. Just an all round excellent shot.
Phil

Hello Kath
Is looks like it's a beautiful place to relax ;D I love the luminosity and colors with the different blue tonalities, the waves splashing onto the rocks and the boats in the middle of the sea ...Thanks for the infos, I always thought of Zanzibar as an island!
Cheers

Hi, Kath -

Hi Kath,
What a nice way to end your trip with a bit of relaxing luxury, I know you said small hotel, but I think any hotel on this beautiful beach would be great. Good idea to wait for the wave to crash, it makes a much more dynamic shot. The sea is such a wonderful color. How was the temperature?

Beautiful colors and effective use of the neutral grad filter. Love the composition, seemingly cropped from top. A refreshing sight in your Tanzania series. Best wishes,

Hello Kath. The pounding wave is very well captured against the blue and green water. The sand and the boad balances well in the perspective. Regards. Jusni

içi les couleurs sont douces et trés jolies

Hi, Kath. TRhe shades of green on the sea are very nice and give a good depth to your picture. The contrast with the white sand also works well and the ships fill in the space very well. The waves breaking on the shore make the scene more dynamic and form a nice diagonal line in the foreground.

Hi Kath!
A wonderful composition well framed, lovely colors and great lighting, i love it! Great work!

I got used to the savanna and that's a big surprise to find the sea and clear tones. A good surprise, with this beautiful fluorescent sea.
And you composed the scene well in that horizontal frame...

Hello Kath,
A beautiful image of this coast with a wonderful tone turquoise in the water, which contrasts with the most neutral sky and with the dynamic effect of the waves that strike the rocks.
Good exposure and beautiful colors, in an excellent work.

Hello Kath
Quite a while that you posted a landscape shot (except the baobab landscape)!:-) Brilliant turquoise & deep blue colours...Your timing is also excellent to catch the splash against the rocks. The 3 boats, one manned & two unmanned also vital to the compo. You seem to have cropped here, towards the FG or the sky? Excellent!
