[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While wandering Stone Town in Zanzibar looking for subjects to shoot, I came across this man quietly sitting and watching the ocean. I asked permission to take his photo - which I always do fo close ups - and he smiled and nodded. This was a refreshing change from most of the adults in Zanzibar, but a decision I fully respect (even the kids were saying no!). Females especially were very hard to shoot, looking so beautiful in their veils and head scarves, but closed to any encounter with a Westerner with a smile and a camera.
So, when I noticed the background and light falling on the man's face I was relieved when he was happy for the portrait.

Hello David. A Portrait worth seeing from a far country. Well realizes. The direct view of the man pleases me into the camera. Informative text. Very beautifully. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello David,
A good portait. Sharp. A beautiful expression taken.
Best regards,
Fabrice

Hi David,

This is the kind warm and humane portrait that I really like. Great colours and lovely blurred background to match. An honest picture, complimented by an honest and respectful note. That's great portraiting for me!

I always enjoy seeing your portraits, always such interesting people. I like the expression in his eyes. Very nice detail once again. TFS and have a great day!

Hi David, good portrait, just by chance you had all dark ocre colours contrasting with the white, great result. Good expression of the man, although he's kinda of smiling, he had a sad look, eyes with emotion. Thanxs for sharing, chau chau,

Maria

Hi David, Good prtrait of this great face. Interesting that he let you take it as judgeing by the dark area on his forehead he is a devout muslim. I thought his eyes were just a little soft and so did a WS. See what you think. Cheers, Steve

Hi David

Excellent use of a shallow dof in this superb head & shoulders portrait from Tanzania. Good colour, sharpness & lighting. Well managed exposure in the highlights of the Islamic cap. Tfs!

Impressive portrait,I use to wonder, did the candid photo more easy and natural look than permission to shoot? But this portrait said to me,NO.:-)Good work,TFS.

It is a very nice portrait. The man shows a very serene face. Well done.

Hi Dave,
A nice portrait, good for you that he agreed. The light, the background and his shirt color all seems to create a perfect harmony. To top it all his face is to so expressive. This shot has all it takes to make a good portrait.
Well done,
Shaeri

David,
It's not easy to take a portrait shot of adult, We don't want to be rude and just snap there photo with permission. It take some courage to ask. This one work out very nice. Great details on the facial texture, a man with with much life experience. Very good shot. Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Hi David,
Excellent portrait with the tonality in which saturation is controlled, the color and blur of the background is also good.
Have a nice day, Hisashi
