Photographer's Note

The best known area of the island's capital Stone Town is the historic center, available since 2000 as a World Heritage Site under UNESCO protection. Most of the brick houses were built about 150 years ago from coral rock, many are being renovated and restored. Great efforts in this regard makes the Aga Khan Trust For Culture (Historic Cities Programme), which already renovated the Old Dispensary and the Old Customs House. In addition, in collaboration with the Stone Town Conservation and Development Authority, a comprehensive plan for the preservation and creation of the historic center was created, which among other things provides for the redevelopment of the waterfront Forodhani Garden.

On the picture you could see one of the famous wooden doors of Stone Town.
