Ras Nungwi is on the northernmost tip of Unguja Island, the main island of Zanzibar. It is Zanzibar’s dhow building capital. We walked along the beach to the small fishing town where the boat building and repairing were taking place, apparently using traditional methods. The beach was busy with lots of activity.

Bonjour Kath,
Amicalement.
Daniel.

A very interesting scene and I enjoy the colors. The sharpness and pov are excellent. TFS

Kath - a nice scene from Zanzibar - I like the contrast of this location to Stone Town shots - its another world (visually). Good colors, in the boat, trees, and sky, offset with the white sand.

Kath,
I like the detail and colors in this photograph. Excellent P.O.V. and good composition. Well done.
Regards,
Kevin

Good morning Kath,
From a distance, but still interesting because there are a lot of interesting things to see. Glad you did not placed the boat in the middle were the people are working. The one on the left fills the gap and with that orange rooftop it brings live and colour in the image. Those green palmtrees are wonderful with in the sky a soft blue toning...how i like that.
The sand looks hot and on the edge of OE, but i think you get away with that...
Have a nice day, Henk

Hello Kath,
A very appealing daily life shot with lots of atmosphere. Always interesting to see traditional building methods still in use and going strong. Very good colours and clarity. Thanks for sharing.

Kath,
Great details in this image.
You compo is balanced, with in particular great use of the white sand on the FG, I like the overall geometrics.
Regards,
JB.

Hello Kath,

Isn't it reassuring that traditional methods are still being used! You don't need to be too far sighted to see the necessity for this!

Your shot is beautifully composed with the off-centre boat nicely angled. You have sharp, clear images and the clever inclusion of a context.
It is so good that you have the men working and not posing for the camera. A good social document!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi kath very good daily life shot.
Now we will see shots from zanzibar, won´t we?
´This is very nice the white beach with teh old fisherboats

Hi Kath,
a nice scene of the daily life in Tanzania, beautifuly captured by you. Wonderful colors and sharpness, just as usual great quality of the picture (because of the Raw, right?), by the way, which program do you use to edit and convert the raw shots? I`m just interested, mine doesn`t work that well and I`m also not that experienced in editing Raw pictures.
So, but I was talking about the picture, I think it is just beautiful and it really shows us a nice scene, TFS.

Best regards
Mark

Hi Kath, how nice to see the locals working on their boat here. Documenting the artisan ways, I always like that. A very interesting capture brimful of engaging detail and well composed too. Added to the theme.
Nice work.
Have a fine week,
Bert

Hi Kath.

Very nice composition for this beautiful and gorgeus landscape. It's simple, it's nice. And I like it.

The sand, the people, the boats, the trees,... it looks so nice.

Thanks for sharing.

Hola Kath.
Great composition with a tropical scene, nice view of the boats and fishermen, the color of the coconut trees produces a nice color contrast with the blue sky, good low POV but at the same time giving us the opportunity to see the top of the trees. Well done, TFS.
Cheers.

Bonjour, mon ami Kath,
Philippe

bonjour KATH.
belle composition de ce petit chantier navale!
image tres typique!
amitiés....aldo.

Not the safari park maybe, but this one now, makes me jealous of your African adventure. I can imagine what was behind you, an azzure sea probably, but turning the camera to the boats and fishermen is a great idea. Excellent low POV as well. Cheers, deniz

So different from the animal serie... Other moods, other moments...
You have an interesting white light here, almost desaturating the colors. Creates a special atmosphere. And I like that palm trees wall in the background.

Hi Kath. Boats and boatbuilding has always interested me. This looks like an unlikely place to build boats but then when I think about it there are much worse places to build boats, the builders look positively relaxed ;-). Great photo. Colour and detail are good and composition balanced. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Kath,
Great capture of this small shipyard on the beach with the people busy repairing the boat. It's well placed on the right hand side and good inclusion of the smaller boat on the left too. The palm trees work here as a very nice background. Thanks for sharing!

Lars

Hello Kath,
A very lovely daily life shot with lots of colour & atmosphere. Interesting to see traditional building methods being used, I'm afraid too many old labour intensive skills are being lost.
Well composed & lovely pic.
Thanks

Hi Kath,
Good POV, a very nice documentary of the activity of that old fashioned shipyard. Although I guess that the work isn't exactly light, it looks like it is done at low pace. The palm trees make a lovely backdrop and the orange roof of the boat on the left adds a nice colour punch.
I wonder if you had to PP the sky separately. If you did, congratulations, because it looks like you have done a flawless job. Anyway, even if you didn't, the light management is remarkable.
Cheers, José.

Hello Kath,
Beautiful scene with many graphical richness and with very interesting elements.
Good caught in your setting the work of these men repairing the fishing boats, in a dynamic image and with a light and a few perfect colors.
It is a great work, very well done and with a great result in the quality of the composition.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hi Kath,

A rather traditional surface of careenage and with the pleasant natural landscape !!! An interesting sight on maintenance of these boats essential to their economic activity. Very beautiful natural colors and clearness of the image. Pretty and interesting glance Kath, thank you.

With all my friendships of Brittany and a very good evening,

Hello Kath
The compo. is so well done. I really like the fact that you kept the boat being worked on, to the right, balanced by the other boat on the left. The colours are nice even, what I presume, was a hot day & the orange tarpaulin covering the dhow. I also feel that it was important to show the sand in the FG, even at the cost of cutting the palm tree tops. A fine work!
Best Regards
Angshu

Your low POV is excellent to show us the men working and the whole scene - very interesting, a peaceful photo with many things to observe...
Compliments,
Best regards,
Cath.

Hello Kath,I like this documentary shot of the boat builders. When you think of modern boat-building and all the paraphernalia that it entails, I just marvel at these people and how they cope.
Good POV.I particularly like the palm trees in the bg, they look beautiful against the sky, and I like how they fill the upper part of the shot.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Kath,
Good work framing this, with the first vessel showing the workers and the boat's profile while the second vessel shows the interior and nice detail of the keel. You also show just the right amounbt of palm trees. As always, wonderful detail and color.
