Two giant tortoises from a reserve on Prison Island, off Zanzibar Island, Tanzania.
It was certainly something different to watch these tortoises mating, it was very clumsy and awkward as the male would find it hard to hold on or stay balanced.
I went in for a close framing to focus on the animals not their location, and to capture the detail and textures of the creatures.

Hi neighbour, I too saw this creatures on Prison Island and took a picture of them on the job. Not as good as yours though. Given how long lived they are, it might even be the same pair. The frontal POV works well and excellent sharpness shows us plenty of good detail on their scaley skin and shells. cheers, Steve

Not sure what you say about a bloke having a feed while on the job but.....
Fantastic detail, and incredible sharps. These creatures are amazing and you've captured them both brilliantly.
The vertical crop works very well, keeping the attention on the main part of the image works a treat.

First, a question: are they endemic of Zanzibar? I never heard about giant tortoises in Africa but I really do not know anything about it.
The picture is great for the amount of detail and also for its definition. What is quite impressive is the apparent size of the male. He looks really much bigger than the female. Well done.

A good choice to go in close - some ways I wish it was even closer, which could be achieved with a little crop to the left and bottom - taking out all of the background (non-tortoise) information. This makes the shot much more interesting, and artistic, a real nature shot.

Great call on closing in on the tortoises! I love the texture and the colour. And the posture of the male tortoise is so expressive. Good capture!

A very unusual shot with your close up in a vertical frame. The details are impressive & we see the male to be much bigger than the female. Very original & very good work!

the clarity and sharpness is very good. The piece of grass or vegetation looks adds a bit of humour to the shot. A very interesting shot.
Thanks for sharing

Excellent, cette image ! Sur la vignette, on se demande ce que c'est, mais une fois ouverte, on sourit !

This Giant tortoises actually reminded me of my trip to the Gallapagos Island, They looks very similar, if not the same. Excellent details and texture of the shell and skin. Very nice. Thanks David.
