| This is an early afternoon shot of Matemwe Beach, on the eastern coast of Zanzibar island. Despite the clouds, (or actually because of the clouds) it was the most beautiful day there. The discoloration seen in the water is from the seaweed which has been planted. Besides tourism, the seaweed industry (which is a relatively recent development) has become the biggest industry of Zanzibar (overtaking its famed spice production). Every morning, at low tide people walk out and tend to the seaweed which has been "planted" on strings tied to posts in the ground. The only production done on this photo was a little cropping. |

Great composition. Usually you see sunny beaches. This is a nice twist on paradise. I like the darkness of the sky against the green foliage. Nice photograph.
