[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here's a Red Colobus Monkey in the wild from the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Shooting these social creatures was just amazing - being so close without them being too afraid. It was a memorable part of my time on the island... and I recall feelings of excitement and discovery when looking back.

His expression is not very re-assuring neither are his teeth. But the “portrait” is very good with an excellent DOF and very natural looking colours. I would have cropped some of the top, just above the lit fern on the left.

hi dave,

nice nice shot...another interesting "national geographic" pic from Tanzania.
I like the attitude of this monkey...so human.
it is just eating..and it doesn't care of the tourists shooting at it!

it seems to say "ok..just take your picture and go away...I don't care about you silly humans!"

ciao
Silvio

Hi David, great shot of this remarkable looking creature. I think I would have been tempted to crop the image losing a lot of the area above his head to that his eyes were closer to a 1/3rd from the top rather than central and perhaps some of the RHS so that he was off centre vertically too. Not sure if that would have been possible with the image size. I did a WS to show what I mean, looking at it, perhaps even tighter might have been good (now I see Antonio suggested something similar)

Hi David,
This seems very exciteing encounter. It's so happy to be able to be close to a forest creature. Color and blur in the background are also very beautiful.
Have a nice day, Hisashi

Hello David,

the bokeh is excellent and the green gives such a good forest feel. The monkey has such a funny cheeky look on its face.

Nice capture

Hi David
Superb nature shot once again, perfect expression, colours, detail and POV. The expression is first class here. Your a very talented photographer Dave, so much different bits of photography to your gallery, a excellent all rounder. Keep up the good work.
Cheers

Excellent sharpness and good colors, here, David. How close were you? Because you seem really near and I am impressed how you caught the monkey... I am sure it has been an exciting moment!

David,
What a charactor, a face that is very expressive. I have seen the black and white colobus, I find they have kind of sad expression most of the time. This one look kind of mean and scarry, a little bit. I would stand too close. Great detail and clarity. TFS

Hello David
Excellent portrait..indeed he looks so very different from the monkeys we see here in India. You seem to have gone pretty close..the details of the wrinkles on his face has come of very clearly. Good use of shallow DOF here. Well done!

Angshu
