This giraffe is just outside the campsite feeding on the acacia tree. Its tongue is so long, it can maneuver around all the thorns on the tree to get to the leaves. Occasionally it would stop as if to watch and enjoy the sunset and beautiful Landscape as well.

The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest of all land-living animal species. Males can be 4.8 to 5.5 metres (16 to 18 feet) tall and weigh up to 1,300 kilograms (3,000 pounds). The record-sized bull was 5.87 m (19.2 ft) tall and weighed approximately 2,000 kg (4,400 lb).[2] Females are generally slightly shorter, and weigh less than the males do.

The giraffe is related to deer and cattle, but is placed in a separate family, the Giraffidae, consisting only of the giraffe and its closest relative, the okapi. Its range extends from Chad to South Africa.

Giraffes can inhabit savannas, grasslands, or open woodlands. They prefer areas enriched with acacia growth. They drink large quantities of water and, as a result, they can spend long periods of time in dry, arid areas. When searching for more food they will venture into areas with denser foliage.

Hello Way,
It is not very often that we can see so good animal pictures but !
Not only the animal itself and its attitude are perfectly captured, but you managed a shot in a perfect environment with a wonderful light. This gives a magnificent overall atmosphere and I just wish I can get there one day...
Have a nice day.
Best regards, Christian

Hi Way
Very very impresion full image

cheers,Braca
Realy beautiful

Wonderful shot of the giraffe in the twilight. You composed it so well with separation between the giraffe and the tree on the right and also giving him plenty of space to look into. The only slight trace of a sharpening halo is around the head, and hardly noticeable. You can reduce the appearance of halos after sharpening in PS by going to edit>fade sharpening and set the blend mode to "darken".
Well done
Kath

hi Way

Lovely giraffe and very nicely captured shot here in good BG and nice light. Although sunset color is mild, it does give good backdrop.

The colours are just fantastic.

Hello Way,

Thanks for your critique.
I enjoy returning to your gallery because it is distinctively different from others. There is such vibrancy in your wildlife shots that few can achieve. The setting here alone is good enough for a photo post, but to have one of the world's most graceful animals in it is unbeatable. I, like most people have only every seen a giraffe in captivity, so you must consider yourself fortunate to have seen one like this. I hope to do the same someday. Well done, thank you for bringing me this terrific sight.

Matt

another great shot, Way, I really think wildlife photography is your forte. beautiful pastel colours, they create a very calming mood, and clever composition that shows the famous animal very well.

Kristine

Hi Way
I keep stopping at these extremely beautiful wildlife shots of yours. I don't know how you managed to always get close to the animals at the right time of day, you always seem to have wonderful lights in your pictures.
How did you get around there, was it an organized tour, and if yes, which company?
Harry
