Sleeping in a hotel at the edge and getting up quite early in the morning, we headed inside Ngorongoro Crater, the "Noah's Ark" and one of the seven natural wonders of Africa, as well as being a UNESCO Heritage Site.
The sun is still young, morning mist has not completely dissolved yet and the hunters are starting to get lazy after a hunters night. A curious young lion approaches the photographer with careful steps. Soon he will be sitting nearby in a cosy mood, enjoying the delicious zebra-perfume brought to him by the morning breeze.
Ngorongoro is the largest volcanic crater on earth (formed by the explosion of an old volcano as huge as its sister Kilimanjaro), with a diameter of more than 30 kilometers and a depth of 600 meters. Thanks to its constant climate throughout the year and variety of its vegetation, the geological "bowl" boasts being home to all the possible large animals of East Africa, even a comparingly large population of rhinos, and thus gaining the righty nickname of "Noah's Ark on Earth".

Good Morning Deniz,
A typical Rigoletto frame!
Three distinct fields, one color each, and a fascinating main object.

depth and sharpness on the king and the field are superb and we feel you were closer than (I hope) you actually were. I love the composition and framing, the lion is excellently positioned near the bottom border, this makes the effect of movement and closeness even more thrilling. The layerd composition is fascinating when we consider what the layers consist of. It's marvellous to see how the decisive step of the lion sets all of the layers in motion, the clouds and the shadows seem to be following his step too. I also love the lighting, the colours and his strong shadow. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

I hope you were safe inside your car at that moment. I would have been terrified if standing outside, watching the lion approaching me, even maybe knowing it wasn't hungry. This is a superb capture of the kind where everyone can identify with the photographer and feel the pulse beating faster. As a composition it is also faultless, the lion being placed off-centre with a background of three differently coloured areas.

this is amazing and slightly disturbing but oh so beautiful. I love the simplicity with the lion being perfectly placed and menacingly elegant. Must have been an unforgettable experience. Stunning imagery!
Enjoy your weekend - Brian.

Uh oh, be careful, that guy has a look in his eyes as if he would consider you for breakfast.
Great wildlife capture of this lonely lion in the even colored grass and the bluish mountains behind. The low clouds in the hills are an added bonus to the scene.
have a great weekend

Noahs Ark, what a beautiful name and from your note well deserved. I can only imagine this 30km wide bowl of all of Natures glory, delighted to learn this today! And what a shot it accompanies too, the different in light and mood between the upper and lower halves of the shot is really remarkable. The stance of the lion is very nicely captured as he slinks towards the camera, while the clouds and mist above is like something from another world. Beautiful.
All the best

This lion looks friendly enough. :-) I love all cats, but you were brave to become friendly with this one. I really like the different horizontal layers int his photo, and the placement of the lion towards the left. It's a really great capture of nature, and that majestic animal.

Can I just say... wait, Brenda said it all!

Great composition and love the light too. I hope you were using a very very long focal length to keep that lion at a healthy distance! Either that or you take the same drugs as Ben Jonson the sprinter once did!

Fantastic shot (and without blood fortunately) of this king of the animal kingdom. The guy dowsn't look friendly, he needs respect. I would be afraid weeing him so close. Excellent picture.
Best regards Malgo

Merhaba dear Deniz
I can read the look on this lion's face so readily: "Ahh, yum, looks like I'm going to be having some nice tender Turkish food for lunch today". He really looks like he's stalking, you, his prey. But maybe it's you who is stalking him with the camera. I'm glad to see that you came of the victor here :)
Lovely colours and light management here, despite the harsh light conditions. I like how you've composed the shot, with the lion positioned off-centre, giving all that space to the wild, endless habitat in which he lives. The shadow the lion throws is also evocative, it follows him everywhere, as he no doubt would follow his prey.
Thanks for sharing, have a fantastic weekend

I wouldn't want to meet this guy too up close!
So how safe are those vehicles you're in anyways :)
its easy to see how these large beasts can use the grass to hide in, its basically the exact same color as the fur.
So how was meeting up with Malgo?
see you around

Wow! Beautiful but scary image, it looks like this is getting ready pounce. I hope you were in a safe place and distance. I like the effect of the low hanging clouds on the mood. Great lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.
