Photographer’s Note
Taken at the ruined cuty of Meroe, Sudan. One of the mebers of our trip which started in Istanbul and ended in Dakar. Out of all the countries we went to (14 for me), Sudan was one of my favorites.
There wasn't optimal shooting conditions here, being extremely bright with the sun still high in the sky, but this is basically what came out of the camera. A bit of sharpening and the usual adjustments. Other than that, just an endless blue sky and sand as soft as any I have felt between my toes.

Bonsoir,
belle photo de cette dune de sable prise sous ce bon POV qui fait une jolies diagonale qui sépare le sable du ciel bleu.
Entre les deux cette personne qui ressort bien sur votre photo.

John: a perfect, composition. Colors may be a little 'hot', but I suspect it was indeed that saturated. best, c

Quite an interesting and unconventional shot, John! Nice combination of colors, with the red accent. It almost looks like a flag.
Istanbul to Dakar, that's quite a trip. How long did it take? Was it a problem to get through the areas of Sudan that the government doesn't really control? I would have thought there would be alot of banditry and so on in those places. It's sad for the Sudanese people that live under one of the most horrible, corrupt governments on earth. Purely a kleptocracy. Of course, that doesn't mean the ordinary people aren't great, and it's certainly a beautiful in its own stark way.
Regards, Ken.

Wow, what an angle!!! Perfect symmetry between the blue and the orange. And the colours, well, the colours are superb. It looks like a nice place for a “siesta” but only in winter if there is such thing in Sudan!!! I love it. Well done.

powerful photo, John, the simplicity of the composition focuses attention on the saturated colours, I like it a lot. love the textures in the foreground, and how the perfect symmetry of the composition you've chosen conveys the feeling of "no rush" and "take your time to think" that I've always associated with deserts. superb work, my compliments.

Hi John,
Passing by TE again... busy as hell, but few minutes on Sunday to greet you and congratulate you for this wonderful photo. I like very much the diagonal framing and the polarized colours. Amazing colours.

Hey John,
I've been absent from TE for awhile, but have started to get some more posts happening. I see I've missed some great shots from you, and your African adventure. The colours really are impressive here. What time of day was this taken at?
Your attention to detail is impeccable, with the dunes starting and ending in the exact corners. Beautiful shot.

David

Hello John,
Obviously the first thing that striked me when I saw this image was the amazing colours of sky and sand.....then I was amazed at the angle Annie was at whilst lying on the dune....and thirdly it was the perfect split of the frame with the diagonal line made by the dune from corner to corner. Great shot and highly effective. Well done.
Cheers Grant
