Camel Market
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A camel market outside of Khartoum, about 40 minutes outside of town.
The picture has been taken in the morning, but the temperature was already picking up with a 42 degrees C. Still a bit of haze on the horizon from a haboob that passed earlier.
Some people responded on the picture, saying 'cute animals'. Well, camels are actually quite vicious!!! Never thought so, before I actually went to a camel market... Most of the camels on this market were chained to the ground and had a protection over their nose - like fighter dogs have - to protect people walking by from getting bitten.
A young camel is not so expensive, because it needs a lot of training to become a good working camel, to become obedient to its owner. These camels already had some basic training, so they didn't need the protection over their nose. But still, their knee or front legs are tied together so it can't get up and run away or bite people. ;-) |

Hello Denis. The photo "Camel Market" pleases me very well. The photo gives an idea of a strange country. It harms that no people are to be seen. Nevertheless very worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang. Welcome on Trekearth.
camel --i find them humerous to look at- nice shot ! cheers from Cananda
Hello Dennis
BEautiful photo of little camels. They look so cute
Samir
wow, these are the 'freshest' looking camels I've ever seen!! I didnt get to see them this young when I was in Morocco, but maybe someday I will have my own! Great shot....
I think this an interesting photo, with the camels looking at you in wonderment. I completed a WS, hope you like. I like the comment that you made too Samir, maybe you should consider adding it to your note, as I was not aware that they had that temperament. Good work and keep posting. Rodney
The first one. The one that started it all. Much better than most and much better than mine. I like going to members firts posts just to see what it looks like and how they have progressed through their learning process. It looks like you had some skills in the first place.
Love the bunching of the "camel clan" and the low mud brick buildings in the background. Great exposure for perfect color in the camels and buildings. Good DOF and low POV. Honestly, I like the original more than the WS...
Nice work.
Good first post.
John
Well, i went tot he camel festival in Puskar, India, and the camel festival in Bikaner. I heard they are nasty, but a lot were loose in Bikaner. they are curious, and seem to really like their owners. I think India lives more intimately with their animals, so they are not so wild usually. I was not afraid to walk between them, even when they were solid.... Most wer tied to a single small stick stuck into the sand, it was psychological, not strengh. Bad ones were hobbled, legs tied, that tried to escape or where young and wanted to play. Remember little ever holds an elephant also, even in a circus. It is a difference in soceities I think and how they veiw animals that create the personalites of the beast!
