Pyramids of Meroe
The ruins of temples and three pyramid groups of Meroe in Sudan are 45 km northeast of Schandi near the village Begrawija. The archaeological sites have been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
From about 400 BC to AD 300 AD it was the capital of the historical Kingdom of Kush.

They are very impressive these ruins even after all this time. The two men help give scale. Good saturated colours and fine clarity.

The wideness of the area is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the pyramids. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Congratulations on adding Sudan to your enormous list of countries photographed. I think noone else here matches your map of the world. These pyramids would be interesting to visit. They may not be as impressive as those of Gize but a visit here would probably be much more fun. They are certainly in a state of decay but still show a lot of beauty. The two persons give us an idea of the dimensions. The warm light is very pleasant.

non solo il soggetto è molto originale e poco conosciuto, ma lo hai saputo riprendere con una luce superba e con una tecnica raffinata chye ne ha evidenziato i dettagli inserendolo oltretutto in una composizione molto ben fatta.
Ciao e buona settimana

very cool and interesting place to see. I have only seen the pyramids in Gize, but would love to visit Meroe! Was it an organised or a individual trip? (i am wondering about the possibility to have a visa for Sudan) Good captured from an ideal pov, beautiful colors tones, tfs!
Have a nice evening.

Good light management in spite of the hot desert sun. The light falls strongly on these beautiful pyramids and is contrasted well by the dark shadows. Excellent composition and good placement of the two men, which gives the scene a nice sense of scale.

The ruins if Meroe, this is the place I would love to see. But it seems to me very difficult to get there. fascinating place and splendid presentation here. some similarities to the Egyptian pyramids but at the same time different. The tow on the foreground seem renovated.
all the best in 2014

nice to see some other pyramids apart from those in Giza :-) Very interesting subject and well chosen POV. The composition seems to be planned and couple of people have been placed in very subtle way. Great light and colors as well as sharpness.

Your gallery isa treat for the eyes and a world explorer for me..These pyramids are very typical and made with reddish bricks from the red soil and contrasts well with the cyan sky. Beautiful work!
PS : Wish you and all your loved ones a very happy and prosperous 2014

I have noticed that before: with this photo you have added one more country to your long list of travels. Very impressive and it is also very rarely visited country I think. I have heard about this place before may be when it was recognized by UNESCO. Extraordinary place. I am glad it is possible to visit it. I am not sure what is the current situation in Sudan but it was not great recently.
Beautiful presentation and the people are so important here to sense the scale. The pyramids seem to be much smaller than the ones in Egypt.

Wow, this is a fascinating place Achim! The shot has another world look to it and I guess when people buried their dead here it was another world to the one we live in now. Excellent detail and a shot that opens up a new world to me. Warm regards Rosemary

the tones of the sand and of the pyramids are very harmonious and it contrasts strongly with the blue of the sky.
The play of light and shades enhances the 3D sense, and people adds the reference and the vital touch. Your composition is attractive and beautiful.
