Photographer’s Note
It's often hard for us to realise what a refugee is. Mostly we see the dramatic pictures on TV when the plight is at it's worse, but often refugees are far from their homes for many years.
I spent my Easter weekend at this simple home in a displaced (refugee) camp south of Khartoum. It's a modest plot, 20m x 10m. The huts are made of clay made from the soil around; there's no running water and few can afford the electricity.
They people that live here have not seen their homes & villages for nearly twenty years since the war began. Hopefully this year things will change - until then it's a tough life.
Taken in the shade it's not a perfect picture but it tells a story. One thing to note are the little flower pots; not many bother to try and make their home this bit more cosy.
Added a little fill to the shade and USM.

A very informative and interesting shot this one. I've also seen those dramatic pictures you've mentioned, so when I saw your interpretation I was surprised.
The composition is simple, but it works well. I just wish there was a bit more detail in the shade (you can try the Contrast Masking technique) and a crop from the left (to get rid of the thingy that looks like a chair) would also be beneficial. Anyway, nice work.

I think you've really managed to capture the essence of African homelife here. And you kept all the detail in the shaded areas. very well done.
