Photographer’s Note

Of very little artistic quality but it shows what a dust storm is like in Khartoum. It arrives swifty, turns the world orange and is gone in 20 minutes. An extraordinary feat of nature.

This is the area opposite my current home. Wealthy and poor together - typical Khartoum.

The photo is actually a panorama - 3 verticals stitched. No workflow except for USM. It really was that colour.

I did not see any dust storm picture probably as this looks very unusual to me..its turning the world into orange is because it cuts light?

It is amazing to know that that is the actual color. It almost looks as if it is a hazy fog. Great shot. I would also be curious to see this same shot captured during clear weather.

I have been in dust storms in Kuwait and they have lasted days. You are lucky it only lasts twenty minutes. Your picture has inspired me to photograph a dust storm next time I am in one.
The area is very much like many cities in India where rich and poor co exist in a similar fashion.
