Photographer’s Note
Taken yesterday in the centre of Khartoum, where we had a large 'haboob' or dust storm. This was taken on one of the streets near my home. As you can see the streets are just a mixture of dust, rubbish and stones. Tarmac covers only the main highways.
The sky really was this colour. The problem is that the camera really hates this light and getting a white balance is almost impossible. I need to invest in a piece of white card! Just USM and that's it.

I particularly like the way that this image creates an effect rather similar to two layers. The foundation layer forms a smooth graduation from earth to sky, with the woman forming a dark contrast and remaining at an appropriate scale so as to maintain a feeling of lonely progress in the sandstorm.
