Photographers Note
Clanwilliam is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated in the West coast region approximately 100km inland, close to Cederberg mountains. Clanwilliam is one of the oldest towns in South Africa.
Clanwilliam dam was built between 1932-1935 as an irrigation dam and is pretty much a natural spot for a dam, needing only a small wall (38 Meters high from base) to block the water at one end. It feeds another smaller dam, Bulshoek, further down from which runs the LORWUA irrigation schemes for the farmers.
In 1966 the wall was raised by another 6 meters. First 3 meters concrete and the last 3 meters by crest gates. This provided an extra 30% capacity.

The resort is situated along the banks of the dam and is a popular weekend and holiday destination and caters for all tastes with chalets, as well a camping area, with or without electricity, with an excellent view of the dam. Watersports enthusiasts enjoy weekends at the dam. The Clanwilliam Dam is known as the most popular dam in the Western Cape for water-skiing. The Ramskop Nature Garden and a short walking trail is easily reached from the chalets. The Nature garden is host to a vast number of indigenous species of flowers and is a real sight, particularly in August and September.

Wspaniałe zdjęcie tej tamy. Pięknie leci woda, do tego w oddali góry, a pierwszy plan też bardzo ładny.

Woda to zywiol ktory czlowiek czasami chce ujarzmic, no coz takie sa potrzeby wspolczesnego zycia. Myslalam, ze tylko czysto naturalne miejsca uwieczniasz.
Pozdrawiam ;)

Witaj Andrzej!
Doskonale wypracowane światła i cienie. Dobrze pokazana tama. Podoba mi się taki POV. Ilość wody przetaczająca się przez tamę robi wrażenie.
Pozdrawiam Paweł.

Hi Andrzej,
What a pity that they did not add a few hydro-generators to it! As an energy engineer, I think it's a waste not to use the available potentional there!
Looking at the photograph, I might have straightened the dam, being the horizon in the photograph. I understand that from your position, this is how you look at it, but I might have corrected that line to be horizontal. Just my feel!
Have a nice Sunday!

Hi Andrzej, A great photo of this dam, from your POV we can see the power of the water as it is let through, the sharp focus & the very well managed light are assets to the shot, there is very good colour, I love the sky with the mountains just in view, TFS & i'll take another look at your site soon, kind regards Wilson.
