Photographer’s Note
Overnight snowfall changed the ploughed winter fields below Surrender Hill into a fantasy of striations.
Surrender Hill is situated between Clarens and Fouriesburg. It is hard to imagine, when looking at this landscape that it made history at the end of the Anglo-Boer war.
More than a 100 years ago on the 30th of July 1900, Boer commandoes surrendered their weapons and amunition to the British General Hunter on this site. This went on for a few days and as the Boers arrived the British troops piled the commando's guns and amunition onto heaps and set them alight. The fireworks must have been something to behold. Even today one can see some burned patches of grass.
Technical: Lightened and sharpened and resized.

Hey, I like the effect of the snow on the lanscape. It does looks like it has been combed in the foreground. The mountains in the background are also nice.

Guten tag Irmgard,
A crisp/sharp image: I like the snow lines on the field, it leads the eye. What also captures the viewer is the 4 sections of the image: the field, hill, mountains and clouds - the different contrasting patterns. Note the first section (the field) ends almost in the middle of the photograph. The patterns on their own seem to be sufficient for the composition, but personally I'd like to have a stronger focal area even if it only the foreground which is really lovely by the way.
regards, your friend

Hallo Irmgard!
A very interesting and beautiful photo! The pattern of the hoarfrost and snow is breathtaking here - and all in Africa - incredible. A noit everydays photo ...!
By the way, I like your family name ;-)
Greetings from Germany - and have a nice Sunday!
