Photographer’s Note
A young colt, surprised when I stopped the car on the opposite side of the road to get a shot... He still has some grass hanging from his mouth. I'm testing my new SLR - still got alot to learn. This was a real point and shoot though. They don't exactly pose for you. The wind was blowing quite a bit - icy too. Winter is well on its way here, and they are quite frisky in the cold air.
Just cropped, resized and sharpened. Hope you like it.

Very good capture, nice colours and very good composition, your test is very good.
I think that you needed to give a higher F number to increase the DOF a little bit, because I see that the nose is not in DOF.

Spur-of-the-moment spontaneity comes across well in this pic Judy, so even though it was, as you say, a ''point & shoot'' effort, the wild (or surprised, or both) look in this colt's eyes contributes to the raw quality of the pic. Sometimes it's nice to see a ''rough 'n ready'' shot instead of post-processed slickness.

Given the shutter speed (1/1250) and aperture (f/5.0) you've used , I'm extremly surprise about the blurriness on the horse. Could it be a problem with you zoom?

Winterdonkie!
I like the ragged looks of the wintercoat, the position of the head in the frame, the reddish blond mane. A real pleasing shot.
How to improve? I will clone out the trunk or pole next to his head. Its the only odd thing in this picture.
Glad you got an SRL. I am selling mine, I must be mad, but the D70 has spoiled me fro good.

hi Judy..nice sharpness on its top face and rest goes to blur..I think you caught it good for a point and shoot (and a new camera..)...
I agree with cdewet..coloning the pole could be good too..
thanks :)

Congratulations on your new camera, Judy! I don't mind a lot the blurriness of the mane, I just enjoy the photo you made of this beautiful and wild horse. Very good how he is looking towards you, and the colors and light are well captured. Not bad for a point and shoot with the new camera, have fun learning to use it and bring us more ;-)

A nice shot, Judy, with excellent light, I like the olden tones that created by the sunlight and the sahllow DIF, I also like the space you kept on the left side. Nice shot/

Super... Très beau . Félicitations pour ta photo et pour ton ouvel appareil photo. J'espère qu'il te procurera beaucoup de joie.
J'aime beaucoup la composition et la faible profondeur qui donne presque l'impression de mouvement. Très réussi.

Judy, this is lovely! The expression of the horse is surreal and nice, colours are strong and the light is perfect.
Well done
