Taken today. We were on our way back from Nelspruit in Mpumalnga and decided to stop off at the Sudwala caves. These caves were formed over 3000 million years ago, making them some of the oldest known caves. The main structure is made from dolomite rock and within the cave are sedimentary layers of rock, as you can see the layers in this photo. There are many stalagtites and stalagmites inside the caves, the oldest dated 200 million years old and still growing. The Swazi people used to use the caves as a hide out and many battles were fought at the mouth of the cave.
I set my camera on 1600iso and did not use flash, the light is from the lights that are in the cave.

Hello Wanda,

Photographing caves is never easy, and your picture has good lighting, which is difficult to get. The thing I would have added is a people, just to have a human scale in this cave, to see the size of it. Thanks.

Great shot Wanda - you've done really well to get both roof and floor into the shot so we can see the cave properly. Great light too.

Hi Wanda,
Beautiful shot under these difficult light conditions. There are so many details and colors visible here. Did you use noice reduction in PP since you took it on 1600 Iso?
Well done,

Hi Wanda,
It must be an impress place to visit and you captured it amazingly well. Impressive exposure and sharpness for a subject that must be rather dark. Much effective pov, with a great sense depth.
Regards, José.

Wanda, now 3000 million years old is fairly long time ago! I am totally amazed at the way they still survive and still manage to charm new comers like us considering that when they started taking shape we were not even heard of! The colours and textures are lovely and you have a good command of light and colours. Overall a superb composition.

Hi Wanda,
wonderful light management in the cave. We get a feeling for the room inside and can look at all those marvelous textures.
