Photographer’s Note

This lot was part of a herd of about 50 elephants taken at the Kruger National Park. The big one to the left is the old patriarch. I couldn't get a shot without her being in the way - almost as though she was protecting the herd. She was really old and leathery. These elephants are culled in the Park every now and then to keep their numbers at bay - they have very few natural predators - other than man of course! They are highly destructive on the vegetation around them, and leave lots of dung behind them. But so very essential to the cycle of life!

Tech: Cropped slightly, resized for web, unsharp mask and adjusted levels slightly. Increased contrast & saturation a bit. Hope you enjoy.
