He is young and strong and serious because there are new responsibilities. The ochre on his face tells that he has just come through the rituals and ceremonies and that he has passed them all. He is now a man. The old clothes have been burnt and he is into a new life.
The combination of ISO, shutter speed and f-stop suggests how weak the light really was. Flash did not work because of the hard shadow that it cast and the D800 did marvelously well at the ISO of 6400.

Hello Neels - this is really amazing for ISO 6400! A nice crisp and striking portrait of this intense young man. His face paint matches the color of his necklace well, and his eyes are a great focal point here, especially surrounded by the golden paint. A great catch - thanks!

A fascinating study Neels and an interesting palette of colours. I find the mask quite disconcerting, it seems like a barrier - a closing off despite the very good eye contact you have here. I also find an incongruity between the cross and the ceremonial rituals. An excellent shot that leaves me asking questions. Warm regards from Windhoek Rosemary

Mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Another really good shot. I like the different and softer contrast than the recent post of the same young man. Good quality and I love the intense stare and of the eye contact.
