Photographer's Note

Slangkop Lighthouse near Kommetjie is the tallest cast iron lighthouse in South Africa.

The Lighthouse was due for completion in 1914 as the brass sign above the door indicates, but due to the First World War, it only went into operation in 1919. This 40 metre height lighthouse warns ships for up to 33 miles with its four flashes every 30 seconds.

Hello Andre - A classic composition and a beautiful shot. I always think that a long exposure adds a special depth and rich quality to an image and here is a perfect example. Details in the rocks are superb and the candy stripe sky is pretty, nicely colour coordinated with the lighthouse too. A pleasure to view a well managed and attractive image. Warm regards rosemary

J'ai toujours trouvé les phares très photogéniques et cette photo ne fait que renforcer mes convictions, d'autant plus que la lumière est superbe.

Salut André,

Pour quelqu'un comme moi qui apprécie les phares comme sujet photo, je suis servi avec ce post. Une belle heure bleue avec des couleurs douces et surtout, la lampe du phare en action. Un bon réglage de l'exposition pour équilibrer le rendu des teintes dans la lumière et les ombres.

J'aime beaucoup la construction très réfléchie de cette image. Le point de vue , très près du sol donne de la profondeur à l'image. Les 22 secondes d'exposition donnent un très beau fini flou à l'eau.

This lighthouse does a good job warning the ship from such a wide area. Is it still useful when all have GPS? marvelous colourspf the photo made probably at sunset. Amazing still atmosphere. i like the view of the stones in warm colours. Delightful shot. I am eager to see Africa photos as I go to africa in September (at last!).

la qualité de cette image est impressionnante, avec une grande netteté, une lumière parfaitement traitée, des couleurs très douces, et un résultat esthétique réellement fantastique.
J'aime la texture soyeuse de l'eau grâce au long temps d'exposition, et le contraste magnifique entre les éléments.
Le phare se détache élégamment sur les roches et sur le ciel.

what a fantastic picture of this lighthouse. the colours in the sky are superbly atmospheric as the tones change from top to bottom of the image. the silk effect on the water is wonderful. the portrait format works perfectly for this picture.

Simply superb. The positioning of the lighthouse on the far left of the frame guides the eye out naturally to the sea and those gorgeous pastels. I like the texture of the rocks alot and the amazing silken effect on the sea caused by the 22 second exposure. An immaculate photo, on par with any of your portraiture work for sure. Can I ask what filters you use please? Craig and I have been discussing filters and thought you'd be the guy to ask.
