Photographer’s Note
The momumnet is situated at the town of Paarl. It was designed by the architect Jan van Wijk and unveiled in October 1975. On the monument there are three domes on the podium to the right of the entrance and this represents Africa's indiginous languages and cultures. The three columns symbolise the western European languages and cultures. However, after all that I am of the mind that any artist that has to write about what his work means has not conveyed any meaning to the viewer. But that said, it is a good structure to experiment with light, patterns and shadows.

Hi Colin,
excellent view of this well known monument. Good contrast between light and shadow and a great blue sky. TFS

I find the composition excellent here, esp. the diagonally placed stairs and the dome and the columns positioned in the top half of the frame. Interesting graphic work. Regards,

Nice shot of this monument. The lighting is at a good angle to show the lines of this, making a very interesting pattern. Very pure and simple, giving this a sense of strength. Well done!

Ho Colin,
A very interesting image!
I found very appealing all the structures on this monument, with their textured surface, and the contrasting forms.
You balanced pretty well all the volumes here in this wide composition.
I think that on sunrise or sunset the shadows created must be terrific to catch also.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

I like this shot, it's simple and very good. The patterns are very effective and you composed the image nicely. The sky is just a tiny bit overpolarized. The contours are nicely emphasized by the dark shadows.
