Today I post a more detailed look at the wonderful old Cape Dutch church I posted previously. (see http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Africa/South_Africa/photo1389599.htm)

This is the oldest church building in the Cape that is more or less as it was when built. Selling the erven (plots) along Kerkstraat (Church Street) raised money for enlarging the church and here you can see the wonderful gable that some of the money was spent on. The gable is decorated in the Neo-Classical style with a shell in the apex and festoons below. The festoons each side of the door are roses.
